ok so i dont have the car yet
but im buying it end of summer
and im just trying to get a few things straight before i make a decision
right now im thinking heavily towards a b6 but my original plan was a b5
now my question is, if i get a b5 i want to drop a gt28rs into it
and im just wondering in the end how much that will cost me? and is it realistic to have that in and still use my car as a dialy driver??

Errr...sure it's realistic to use it as a daily driver with a disco potato.

GT28rs on an AWM car with stock internals is a bad idea, on an AEB it is doable...Ctapp or unitronics are what you want

Plan on spending $10k in mods to do it right (suspension and brakes, chassis mods etc.)

soo is that a no to daily driver? haha
because once i get the car ill be using it to drive back and forth to work everyday, and going snowboarding in the winter and doing a few trips down to the states? i dont mind spending the 10k on it, i just dont want to run the risk of using it everyday and then something going wrong on it

GT28RS is not enough power to bend/break rods. Now a maxed out GT2871r on race gas will do it i think.

the gt28rs is a great turbo for a dd ... even a 3071r is great with the right mods done right.
the apr kits uses the gt28rs ... as far as the internals go rods and your all set

Plus the fact that the B6 guys are all running GT28rs setups on race gas making up to 330whp and they have the exact same bottom end as the 2001.

    Re: GT28rs

I just started to do searching on turbo set ups, and from what I have learned we can push our cars to the full gt2871r before we need to change rods (on low boost). Then change the rods if you want to max out the performance on the gt2871r. Anything after that (30 series and higher), then new rods is a must. As for pistons, I read they have seen over 700 hp. But better safe than sorry.

I decided to go bt myself and don't plan on spending $10,000 on mod parts. Those are off the shelf prices. Keep an eye on the cassified and you can get a whole set up for cheap ($1,200-2,200). The extras you will have to worry about are suspension, clutch, tuning, exhaust set up, and labor (if you can not DIY like myself). If you gather piece by peice over time, you could have all done for around $5000-6000 (or even less) parts and labor. That is suspension and stage 3 or 4 clutch included. But if you do all this off the shelf, then yeah, you are talking major bucks.
