So i was driving home last night with my friend going the speed limit and i get pulled over by a Sheriff. We i knew i was not speeding and everything was cool. Well he tells me its for no front plate. I explained to him that i got the car and i had no front plate but i was planing on going to the DMV and getting new plates so i have one.

He check my Lisence and guess what. It come up fucking suspended. Apparently one of the tickets i had and payed for in full did not get sent to the DMV and since the DMV did not see it got payed it suspended my license for FTP (failure to pay). which i did and even had my receipt with me.

Well my freind was with me in the car and he is AirForce and he has valid drivers license and the cop did not let him drive it home. He was a dick and had it towed.

Now when the car got towed they got a two wheel tow truck and i have quattro and they did not care. They said it will not matter. Thats impossible since its mechanicle quattro and not like a r32. So im sure they fucked something up. See the pictures.

I got pulled over twice too, once for speeding (which I wasn't), and the trooper just gave me a ticket and told me to make sure I find out what's up.
well, a few days later I got pulled over by a new police car which uses some kind of new technology, I got pulled this time because when they scanned my plates, my license came out suspended. which I had little idea about. went to DMV, turns out I ove them $700 for points - I had no clue about. brilliant. would be kind of cool if they sent me a bill so I knew I owed something. So i went back to court, and got some time to clear this all up.

so just go to DMV, if it's all paid for, you will probably just have to pay the "lift the suspension fee" or whatever they call it now.

Are you certain? I'd check my manual to see if says anything about towing, but it's early and the car is out in the detached garage.

On my other AWD car it specifically says to not 2-wheel tow it or it will damage the drivetrain.

To the OP, there was a thread on some other car site regarding a 2-wheel tow on an AWD, and the consensus was that the towing company is responsible for damages as they should know better than to tow an AWD car with a 2-wheel method.

Your license does not just get suspended for no reason whatsoever. You have to have (2) failure to appears / failure to pay fine on your DMV record that are unresolved for them to suspend it (if you have one they will not let you renew it, if you have two they suspend it).

Most insurance companies will not honeor a claim if the driver is breaking the law either (driving on a suspended license).

Look how many times on COPS, somebody gets pulled over for a suspended license, at least one every show.

DMV sends out a warning to you letting you know it is getting suspended, when you get pulled over the officer HAS to tow your car, it is the law.

you should contact a lawyer and find out what your rights are. If you paid the ticket and had the reciept with you you should have been left alone because of the technicality. If your car is messed up for it the city should have to pay for it. Good luck

The manual states it is safe to tow for up to 30 miles. He will need a lawyer though, typical jail time for driving on a suspended license is 30 days, usually they allow you to do work release.

I am speaking this because I know from experience, i have been caught driving on a suspended license (more than once), had my car towed (more than once) and I know exatly what it takes to get yourself in this situation and out of it.

What I dont understand is, if he had the receipt in-hand showing that he paid the ticket, that should have superseded the information from the DMV. I have been through the CA traffic court system may times. The cop should have let you go, or issued you a citation(fix-it). Not what he did. I had a few friends in the Kern Co sheriffs office that I used to play 20 questions with.

ya but i did pay for everything. I had a 700 dollar ticket. I went and payed for it and had a recipt in the car. He looked it up and talked to the dispatch and they said the same ticked i had in my hand payed was the one that gave me my FTP. And guess what. even the dispatch lady saw it as PAID. Whatshe said was is that they did not send it in to the DMV after i payed for it. She said sometimes i have to pay ten dollars so they send the information in.

What BS is that. After you pay for a ticket why cant they just send it in by them selves. Why do u have to pay another 10 dollars.

It has nothing to do with how tough the system is. Quattro is not a free wheeling system. If one axel is locked(front) and one axel is moving(rear) and they are connected then they are moving against each other...which means torque is being applied to one of them and the weakest part will fail. Most likely a linkage.

Not that I'm trying to cause an argument but I'm holding the owners manual for my 2002 A4 1.8t Quattro. I cannot find where it says anything about 30 miles.

On page 290, under "Emergency towing with commercial tow truck" it does say however:

"Never tow your Audi otherwise this will cause damage to the engine and transmission."

"To prevent unnecessary damage, your Audi must be transported with a car carrier (flat bed truck)."

Again, we were not there! We did not see the entire situation, nor do we "know" the law in that situation. Even then the Police have the old "catch-all" or probably cause....

Remember, the police are human too. They do not know everything. A smart officer would have taken into consideration what they are being told. A lot of my friends are cops and I work very closely with the police. Half of them don't pull people over because they don't know the vehicle code. They are not allowed to knowingly cause damage to property.

Probable Cause applies to search and seizure not towing.

And the police have a force continuum that they need to abide by in order to control a situation.

And as far as Alex's situation, all he could really do is inform the police officer and the tow company that the car needed a flat bed. Is it possible that the police officer did not know this? If alex informed him and he still did not take the steps to correct it then he is at fault. The same goes for the towing company. And no, I was not there, but if the cop, and the towing company was informed of the needs to move the car, then they should have done it correctly. Otherwise they knowingly destroyed property.

I got pulled over with a suspended license. The suspension was news to me. In MA the state and your insurance company will notify of your suspension, but they neglected to do that.

I was pulled over for a rejection sticker. Luckily for me they brought a flatbed. Apparently I had been driving on a suspended license for the past 6 months and no one decided to notify me.

^^he's right! our very own 7speed here is a cop in FL, he's not a dick! well at least don't think so! some cops are cool! i flew through a yellow light and a car was turning left and i had to swerve around him a cop just pulled up to my window and said that was pretty dangerous don't do that again, and i drove over a bump on the wrong side of the road so i don't damage my lower and the cop pulled me over obviously and he said don't do that a couple feet is fine but the whole way? he let me go to! some are real assholes that are depressed with their lives and have nothing better to do than take it out on u! for those just say u want their Sargent's name and # and he'll loosen up!
