School's AutoCross, first of the season

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
the University Of Northwestern Ohio had their first Open House of the year, and this is the AutoCross portion of it. These are all students, we require them to help on the course and clean up. This is in the parking lot behind the Dyno Building and the 600/Performance Motorsports building.

I posted a video of the first day here. (Myspace link) and here's some pics
    http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fusea...deoid=32266056

Video of the second day. I wasn't running for a time in this one, so I was having fun at the end. (sorry for it being cut short, trust me.. I launched it!!) Oh yea, the course was changed severely the second day. Went from 41+ second runs to 26-ish.
    http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fusea...deoid=32267492

EDIT: Here's an in car video
    http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fusea...deoid=32285279

taking a break for lunch while the Drag Team practiced the launches

It rained both days, the first day I was the only AWD'er, and the second I owned all, but a RX7(FC-turbo). He only beat me when the course was completely dry and ALL my runs were wet. Pic here shows how dirty my car got from kicking it out in the mud that came off the hill next to the course.

Story of my life. I got beat by a N/A Neon w/ Ecsta MX's 225/50R17? and a built Civ Hatch B16/18head.... both are damn good drivers.

Thanks, I guess. We're doing another AutoX this weekend as well. We've got clubs for just about everything. I'll post some of the other stuff that was there. Dyno'ed cars, burnouts, launchpad, etc when it all comes together.

Ebay 2.5" Testpipe, Techtonics 2.5" DP and 3" Dp back (mandrel) homemade and welded up by Rainbow muffler. The "muffler" is a megan racing fart can. I don't like the can, but it actually quited it down alot.
EDIT: entire exhaust DP back came off a MKIII Turbo Supra, I added one S-bend and mocked it up. The exhaust and the S-bend were kinda repayment for labor on the late-roommate's Vette. The entire exhaust was done for ~$400 and it helped the car wake up, like getting chipped all over again.

Thanks, I didn't get any vids of my faster runs or harder launches, maybe next time. A buddy of mine (graduate from UNOH) came down for the day and was video taping the second day of the event. He's not real good w/ my camera, that's why the second clip is a lil messed up.

Official results and what not will be announced on Tues at our AutoX club meeting.

Re: School's AutoCross, first of the season

Here's where all our AutoX students/volunteers disappeared off to after we heard it from 1/2 a mile away(it was inside the building on the Dyno).
No accurate numbers yet, it can't keep traction on the dyno. Oh yea, this is the onwer's son(cool as hell) from the local Honda Toyota and Scion dealer in town. It's not slow. Spinning the tires #'s were around 630whp.

Yea, and I was having traction issues. In the couple spots I could got WOT I'd pin it @ 6K and as soon as it would catch traction I'd have to let out. The early runs I was hanging it out in the straights to try and setup the corners.
I had a lot of fun this weekend, and only burnt up 1/4 tank of fuel.

Here's the video of the Dyno Princess that everybody was poppin boners over. My previous employer's son has a Single Turbo MKIV Supra. It can't even get traction on the dyno, and he still claims it'll make 7-750whp and 650TQ. yet to be proven.

If you exclude me and my rice muffler, yes.
There was a Geo Prizm that was ther that has a "dragon" body kit on, for some reason we let a Tracker run, and the damn kid w/ a Kia.

The other Japanese import cars there weren't real ricers. I was beat the first day by my buddy Sean in a Civic Si w/ an LS swap, and a Dodge Neon. Both cars had DAMN good drivers. Sean has a 1G DSM that ran 32psi, popped and now he's building it to hold 40+.

EDIT: My school specializes in Automotive Technology and High Performance education, we can't turn people away b/c they like imports. WE drive imports, just better ones.

Congrats, you might want to say Accepted rather than admitted though. Admitted sounds more like a mental health institute.
    What's your course of study?

You're in Cali, I'm sure there's SCCA events somewhere near you. I've got some family in CA, nice stuff out there.

Lol, accepted it is then :]. I applied to these universities with the intention of studying either mechanical engineering or aerospace. Things have changed since I've taken an Econ class this semester. Right now, I'm perplexed and still deciding.

If it helps any, after working in the automotive repair field since the summer of '05, I'm going to pursue mechanical engineering. I'd rather build it than fix it. Or so says my new life motto.
Though I'm looking into my other options as well. I'd like to work in R&D, more specifically some racing R&D. Audi, TRD, BMW, whatever, I just want to enjoy what I do, not what it has been.

Somewhat back to original idea of the thread, Autocross is a bunch of fun. Maybe you could end up going into "ProSolo" and be paid to race somebody else's car. Look into your other options, maybe you can start something in your area that there's a calling for, but nothing official yet.
The money might not be the best, but if you can enjoy what you do and be able to afford living and some "play time" that's what it's all about.
