    Timing belt HELP

    Hey everyone,

I have one question. I got everything done everything in the timing belt DIY up to the part where you have to pull the pin on the tensioner. Now it was all spaced out correctly, but because of the way I pulled the pin it widened that gap. Is there a way to reset it back down?

You will need a 6" C-clamp to compress the tensioner. Crank it down and reinstall the lock plate, then start over with the adjustment.

I guess I should have read your post closer. You stated that "Because of the way you pulled the pin you widened the gap". Could you explain that a little better? If I recall correctly you should have set the gap at 8mm before you pulled the lock plate. what happened after you pulled the lock? If the gap increased a mm or two you should be fine. The spring in the tensioner is one strong M.F. and a little belt stretch is normal.

Well I originally I had it set to 7mm using an allen key, like in the DIY. Anyways the when I pulled the pin, my hand it the allen key and it moved the roller up a bit more. Now the gap is about 11mm now.

I assume you still have your old tensioner. Measure the fully extended travel on the plunger of the old tensioner and compare it to the installed tensioner. As long as you have a reasonable amount of compression you should be OK. If I remember correctly the fully extended plunger is somewhere around 30mm. If your total extension is 11mm you should be good to go.
