I guess I posted in the wrong section, that nobody visits:

In summary, I get a solid, sometimes flashing battery light when engine is running. VAG reports 12.1 V for battery when car is off and 14 V when engine is running. Multimeter reports 12.8 V at the battery and ~16 V when car is running, so I guess there is no problem with the battery or generator, so why is that light no?

i think it's something electrical? could be a faulty sensor, or maybe overcharge?

    Re: Battery Light

I've wondered how it can be overcharge, I quickly looked at measuring blocks in engine module and they seemed fine. 16V for alternator could be a bit high.
Also googling showed that it could be also a sign of serpentine belt slipping but it is usually associated with Power steering failure.
Could somebody measure their voltage readings at the battery?

    Re: Battery Light

try this! pull all the fuses connected to the battery or alternator one by one and the one that causes no difference in how it runs has something wrong with it! LOL! old way of doing things! i think it was overcharge that caused my Battery to explode a couple years back!

    Re: Battery Light

i just had the same issue today, and i found the problem is my heat shield, i just put it on yesterday and it was moving inside, and the bottom of it cut one of the wire beside the turbo, and when i start my car and try to move the heat shield, i saw lots of sparks come from where the heat shield and turbo connected. and i took the heatshield off, then everything is fine.

    Re: Battery Light

It is true that I have retrofitted headlights and installed VVME fog lights, but I never had a problem, which fuses were you referring to, the only ones I am aware of are in drivers side panel.
I was thinking of giving it to the shop, but I don't feel like paying them $100/hr just so they can tell me that they have no clue.

    Re: Battery Light

Today, I will look at all the fuses, but also if anybody can measure their voltages at the battery terminals, so I can compare them to mine, it is possible that my voltage regulator failed.

    Re: Battery Light

I couldn't figure out the pattern for the battery light.
On friday I drove to my base and for first mile, nothing. Then it just appeared solid and stayed all the way with minor flickering.
Today I returned and on the way I got half-half scenario. I'm out of ideas how to troubleshoot that.

    Re: Battery Light

I posted a wiring diagram in above mentioned thread and it is possible that wire could be cut/damaged/shorting but so far I'm yet to find alternator. Silly how it sounds, there is so many different pieces covering everything.
