So, i have a little problem. It doesn't affect my driving at all but, sometimes just out of the blue, my ESP light comes on, just randomly. Should i be concerned or no?

Example 1: I Was driving at night on a regular highway, the roads were fine and dry since it was sunny all day & all of a sudden, the light comes on.

Example 2: I come home from school, pull in my driveway, then all of a sudden, the light comes on.

Anyone know what is up with this? Thanks in advance for your help.

Just happened with me. It's the brake light sensor. Replaced under warranty at the dealer.

    Re: Please Help! ESP Light.

According to my invoice. They rain fault-finding diagnosis. They removed the brake light switch, replaced it, cleared the faults. And everything was set.

I had it VAG'ed before taking it to the dealer, and the code my shop told me that came up was the brake light switch. Apparently it's common to go bad.

    Re: Please Help! ESP Light.

So that's what it was! I had the same problem, ESP light on at random times. Not knowing it had to do with brake light switch, I picked up one up b/c my brake light was always on even with my foot off the brake pedal. Got one from VW dealrship for $13 and replaced it myself. Then ESP light problem was no more after that. I thought it just stopped out of the blue...

Go with brake light switch really quick and easy fix. It even comes with a step by step instructions & diagrams...

My B6 does this also, at least once a week, maybe more. IF it is the brake light sensor, does that mean the ESP is still deactivated when the caution/warning comes on?

From what I hear it doesn't effect the traction control. But I would get it taken care of [O_O]

    Re: Please Help! ESP Light.

Funny. I just had this happen to me today as well.
Actually first my battery died on me. Then when i jump started my car the light came on.. I thought it was just because my ECU went to sleep and it was a little crazy after getting jump started again. Then today when I was driving the Traction light came on again... Looks like I'll need to replace mine under warranty too! *However the light goes away after I turn the car off and then on again.*
