    B6 A4 headlight issues

Alright... I've got a couple problems here.
One: I just took out OEM xenons from my 02 and put them into my 04 which is for sale--I want to sell it with xenons.
My 02 now has halogens, and my dash is lighting up with the dipped headlight symbol... This is odd, because I've vag'd both cars so that they are programmed properly for their respective new headlights. The 02 with halogens is vag'd to have halogens, and yet I get this bloody dipped headlight warning.

Second: I've got a set of the S4 bi-xenons with the gray/black housings from Europe... I want to eventually put those into my 2002, but the wire/plug isn't long enough to reach the different location on the bi-xenon housing. Is there a way to free up some slack?

    Re: B6 A4 headlight issues

Thanks for the link, but that isn't my problem. That guy is talking about fixing his xenon lights... right now, I've got halogen lights in a car that previously had xenons. Very strange situation... I doubt if anybody ever does this.

The good news is, I've got the S4 Bi-xenons, so if I can figure out if I can free up some slack for my plugs... I don't need to deal with the halogens, I can install the bixenons.

    Re: B6 A4 headlight issues

When I installed my bi-xenon ecodes into my 04 which already had xenons, there were a couple of points on the harness that where connected to some hangers (for lack of a better word) that when I broke them free, gave me some slack on the wires. More importantly for me, the drivers side actually blocked the back side of the housing from fitting in since the ecodes are much deeper because of the ballast location.

    Not sure if that helps.

What did you do to make the drivers side fit in? I think when I tried this, I was working on the passenger side first... and gave up. Didn't even try the other side.

    Re: B6 A4 headlight issues

Hrmm... I've got an update. I've got the BiXenons into the car now, but they are aimed too high. Usually when I pull up behind another car, I can see the cut-off of light about halfway up their trunk... As they are right now, they are aimed much, much higher than that. I notice the cut-off of light up in the trees above me! As a result, the amount of light actually flooding the ground in front of me is diminished... not a good thing.
I vag'd the car and told it that it had xenons again... I went to some level ground and told it to learn the position... and I've tried the coding to lower the light level, with no luck. I mean, 60 was lower than 20... 50 was lower than 60... but I really need to get them down quite a bit more.
Is there another vag setting to do this, or do I have to get manually adjusting things now?

I think that's as much as you can do with VAG-COM; you'll have to manually adjust the height using the screws.

Change your soft coding setting back to 60 in the Vag-com. I have read that changing the soft coding value is not the correct way to adjust your headlights. You need to manually adjust the headlights, then use the Vag-com to remember the new default settings.
    Here's a link for the instructions: http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/car...alignment.html

Double check to see if the gears inside are connected properly. I had the same issue where I could no longer manually adjust them lower using the screws. I took them back out and noticed that the rod which has a ball and socket connection, and pushes/pulls the headlight at the bottom was not in properly. This pushed the bottom out effectively aiming the lights too high up. After I popped in and I was able to adjust the aiming with the top screws with no issues.

I checked this out today... everything looked like it was as it should be. You're talking about the white plastic ball/socket thing? Yeah... looked normal.

There is a black allen head thing that when turned, turns a gear... which turns a post... which appears to move that white plastic assembly. Craziness. However, that black socket thing isn't accessible when they are installed in the car. These headlights are aimed so high... it drives me nuts.

On a positive note... I installed my LED city lights while in there. :)

    Re: B6 A4 headlight issues

Just an update... I've got the light to go out on my dash. I had to bend the bracket a bit for the front leveling sensor, as the reading was just out of spec... it should be between 1.6 and 3.5 volts or something, and mine was at 1.3 or something. Now it's at 1.7, and I was able to clear the "headlights not adjusted" code that wouldn't clear before.

Also, the black plastic allen head things on the top of the headlight adjusts the projector... so that allows me to lower the beam. VERY annoying that the adjuster is not accessible when the headlight is installed in the car. It boggles the mind. Maybe cars that came with Bi-xenons from the factory had a hole in the particular piece of sheet metal that is in my way. :)

On a side note... why can't I edit my original post up top?

Glad to hear that you fixed your problem. Could you do me a favour and take a picture of which bracket you bent? I'm sure others would like know as well. I'm just kind of nervous to start bending stuff without knowing exactly what to bend ;)

    Re: B6 A4 headlight issues

Haha, well, to be honest, I did this the most ghetto way possible. It's on the drivers side lower control arm... I believe the front arm, but I can't exactly remember. I just jacked the car up a bit, didn't even take the wheel off, and laid under it... You can see the little elbow thing connected to the lower arm on one end, and on the top, it's a plastic box which presumably is the sensor... and the box is on a bracket. I just pushed up on the box as hard as I could, with slow even pressure. I likely could have just as easily broken it off accidentally... but I knew I didn't need much.

Dropped 'er down and it was at 1.72 on the vag, so I knew I was golden. :) Next time I Have the wheel off, I'll take a pic.
