Hey, i just won on the auction a 2004 A6 2.7t with tip and 43k miles for $10.8k. It has salvage title due to flood damage. however it was fixed by insuranse company before it was auctioned of. Auction company stated that the car was be able to start, shift in a gear and move foward/backward under its own power. Car got delivered to my friends house yesterday and i supose to pick it up couple weeks later, but it just wont start. It does cranks, he says, but wont start. Hes going to look into ignition and fuel stuff. Oh yeah, it was seating in the yard for about 2 month after it was started. But is their anything comon in this car due to flood, i dont know how bad was it, but it does look very clean in and out. And what could be the worst thing and how much will it damage my pockets? Thanx for any input!

well i can tell you this, insurance would not fix a car and then issue a salvage title on it, insurance adjuster came out and looked it over and said im not paying to have this fixed because the damage is too great and marked it off for the owner as such which gave it salvage title to the new owner who probly did nothing but change the fluids to try and get it running

ok class, what do we do BEFORE buying a car?

i want to say i am sorry, but to do something this dumb...they even were honest enough to mention it was salvage due to flood damage.

i hope it works out for you, but if you thought you were saving money by buying a broken car, well, i don't really see any logic there.

hell, i wouldn't own a brand new condition audi without a warranty, let alone one with known water damage.

Ok, it did start and runs just fine. It was the fact that it was seating for over 2 month without a start or anything. My budy added some octane booster, said it will raise uo octane level a bit just to be safe for now. He changed all the fluids, oil, trany, brake, coolant, even windshield washer fluid. Motor sounds strong and looks like new, in fact he said that the whole car is extreamly clean in and out. It still smells new inside and intereor has no flaws what so ever! Body has a 2 inch tiny scratch underneath front bumper, other then that its clean, dont even has rock chips up front!
But after test driving it for couple minutes, he noticed that trany is sleaping, or its just like if u driving it normaly you step on the gas, the engine will rev up a bit and then it will engage into gear. he said it wasnt to bad, but noticeble. So now i would have to start new thread on trany subject. What could it be? he said it could be comp out of calibration or maybe could be trany going. Eather way it will be brought to audi dealer for check up. But what could it be, and how much to get it fix? I think of a worst case, wich is trany going good bye, can i rebuild it or how much will new one run me?
    thanx!

"He changed all the fluids, oil, trany, brake, coolant, even windshield washer fluid."

He said his buddy did the transmission fluid.

There's a million things in a car that could be damaged due to flooding.
Seeing as it's an Audi, probably 2 million possibilities.

You're in for a long repair process, unfortunately, if the obvious isn't obvious enough.

If it's not one thing with our cars, it's another...like a game of tag. Once one part is done, another breaks, and another one, and another one, and so on, and so on...

But on those rare days when the car gremlins take a vacation, there is nothing sweeter than the sound of your A6 on the road.

Best thing is maybe just take it into an Audi dealership, have them do a once over, if they will even look at a salvaged car, and get an estimate of what needs repair for the car to come back to life. Even if you don't get the work done at the dealership, at least you'll have a printout of the necessary fixes.

For what you paid, it's probably worth the few hundred bucks for the full inspection.

    Good luck.
