Wondering what kind of tires you guys are running...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    I'm looking for 235/35 19" but I don't know what to get!

Looking at the falken 452 or toyo t1r's but I'm stumped. Was going to get Pirelli P Zero's but even with a hook up they are pushing $1000 for the set!

    Any ideas?

Re: Wondering what kind of tires you guys are running...

Was in the same place as you a cpl weeks ago....

I was looking at 452's, but heard very very mixed reviews.
I am replacing Toyo T1S's, so the T1R's looked really interesting to me also.. the autocross crew I run with loves the Bridgestones also.. I looked at Eagle F1's, but oh my god the pricing!!

In the end I picked up a set of Kumho MX's from a member here in 235/35/19. They go on in a week or so.

Goodluck with your purchase.. hard to get sub$1k on these monsters (for us Canadians)... took me 3 months of watching the WTB and Classified forums across here and a cpl other sites.

PS, Pirelli's are nothing but markup. Anyone here own them? I have a cpl friends in the biz and have seen markup/costs on many brands... you are paying through the nose for that name... they ARE good tires, for sure. But not for the $$. IMHO.

Re: Wondering what kind of tires you guys are running...

I picked up the Hankook K104's. Based on a strong recommendation AND they're lighter than most (235/35/19's are 21 lbs). If weight isn't an issue, I'd suggest the Vred. Sessanta's as they're awesome tires and can be had for cheap out of the US.

It does depend on how you are driving also.... you could get less costly tires if all you are doing is casual driving.

Running T1Rs. Decent but not amazing. Little squishy and noisy imho. Falken ST115 were quieter.

I would still recommend Conti Sport Contact 2 or 3s... ...great on Porsches!

Have you gotten these on your car yet? Let me know how you like them, Im leaning towards those. The previous owner of my car had 19"s with the RE050A Pole Positions on them and they were pretty darn good. Obviously those aren't Pole positions but those were more than enough anyways. Do the 750's have the rim protector?

Thanks for all the info guys.

That price is pretty good.. but they're showing sugg retail versus what they sell for... no one can sell for sugg retail nowadays. I think TireRack has always been close to these prices... still a good find for availability though.

If you guys want to really cringe, check these links,

Canadian Tire Prices @ Talon Tire (great shop)

New tires I just bought from a AZ member but NOT at this price - good value in looking around first compared to buying new (great cust service tho)

I've read mixed reviews about the falkens as well. But it's only that when you start losing tread it gets noisy and has problem in the rain, but I guess that goes with most tires anyways.

I thought they looked good and a local rep also said I would like them, but I was coming across a lot of people that had the precursor to the 452 (sorry, name/number escapes me right now) and drove both and greatly disliked them.. I would have probably tried them for my own opinion had I not found the deal on the Kumho's. I do try to take reviews with a slant since you don't know what kind of driving conditions the reviewer faces daily.

The other concern I heard was over tire wear... but again, hard to say how those people drive... but they weren't tracking or autoxing.

I know the Ziex are pretty good and Azenis are legendary in autox, so I didn't form the opinion that they were a "bad" tire. Just when weighed against the options I wanted, it fell right on the line with cost vs performance. But for only a few dollars more could have had a MUCH better tire. In the end, as I mentioned... found a great deal elsewhere on the MX's, so it was a pretty easy decision.

Glad you like the 452's.. who knows, may be my next tire.

I'm not too sure about it being noisy but they're great in the rain. This is one reason why I bought them. Actually, one of my main concern when purchasing summer tires, is how they handle in the rain.

Yea sorry I meant when they start to lose tread it gets bad in the rain.

How's the ride on them? Think the sidewalls are strong enough for the terrible roads this year?

Not too sure if you guys know but Eurotuner issue Jan08. There was a shoot out, Tuner GP. All the tuners were using the Falken FK-452 tires.

I just went from stock suspension and winter shoes (235/45/17) to Vogtland coils (GT's) and new 19's. I swear the ride is actually better than it was before and the coils are definitely firmer (moreso than stock S4 and quite noticeable in my B6 A4). Although the wheels are forged and known to be very strong, I am concerned about pot holes. Also, with a width of 8.5", the wheels don't have a ton of protection width wise but this decision was based on being told 245's would have rubbed. To be safe, I'm running 40 lbs pressure cold and due to the comfy ride I may end up increasing that a bit down the road.

There are a few tires known to have stiffer sidewalls (Bridgestone for one) so you could always take that into consideration in your purchase decision.

Re: Wondering what kind of tires you guys are running...

35 series is not alot of rubber, and yes, you will bend a rim easy if you are not very careful. Potholes are bad this year, hit one at even 40km with a 19x8.5 and you risk bending a lip.

As far as pressure goes, sure running a higher perssure will help buffer the road but also pushes out the center of your tire and makes for uneven tire wear and loss of handling. Dont know what pressure id recomended for the above car, I know with the A3 spec is about 32psi, 40 sounds high.

Not sure this should be taken negatively 100% of the time. You may find this difficult to believe but since installing my GT Vogts with 19" Volks (235/35's) this past week, I swear the ride is smoother ! No question that there's more road feel going from my 17" winter shoes but so far, I'm blown away with the ride improvement. I do believe that shaving 10 lbs off the wheel/ tire weight has some impact in this.

Agree with Steve here. My 18" winters and stock brakes make the car feel harsh and slow (believe it or not!)

With the 19" RSGTs and 370mm BBK, she rode so much smoother and feels 200+lbs lighter!

Someone lend me their Gmeter so I can prove it when the summer setup goes back on

    No question the OEM 18's are heavy ... mine were 51 lbs. Your RSGT's are 19x8.5 right ? 245/35 Toyo T1R's ? If so then 22 + 24 = 46 lbs

Any weight savings on the brake upgrade ??

Any weight savings on the brake upgrade ??
2pc 18" OZ are suppose to be light - but i think the inner and outers are made of lead

    tires are 235/35/19.

I honestly don't think the BBK are lighter, but me butt dyno tell me differently...

Too bad the brakes aren't lighter - I'd consider getting me a set ;-)

    235's are 2 lbs less so 44 lbs ...

Let us know how you like those! My dad is shopping for 235/35/19's...

I'm on 235/35/19 Nitto Invo's as of yesterday. I've not been on the highway yet... we'll see.

I need new tires but don't have the cash for new wheels so they're going on the stock 17" premium pkg wheels. Tire Rack recommends a 235/45 -17. Good size and does anyone know of a Canadian retailer that's competitive with tires? I'm looking for Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s. Tire Rack has em @ 159 e/a but about $300 extra in taxes, duties, and shipping to get them to Vancouver. Canadian Tire has them for about 185 and I've seen them crest $200 at other places :/

Any thoughts on these tires, size or how to get them for less? My stock all season's kindof blow... I'm excited to get a decent pair of shoes for my baby!

Although they're a bit pricey, F1's are great tires ! Have you tried Tiretrends or 1010tires ? BTW, that's the correct size for you. FYI, I paid close to what you're talking about for 235/35/19's (Hankook K104's). I've only had them on the car a few days so can't provide feedback yet tho ...

BTW, look into Vred Sessantas from the States. They'll be a ton less than the Tire Rack price and are supposed to be an awesome tire.
