sorry I was at a garage and all I had was the camera phone. They are of two areas. Looks like a rear main seal leak and possible leak around the turbos somewhere. Those are the hoses around the turbos that are on the bottom

no it should not be leaking... are you sure its comming from that spot? that would be your transfer case and I would just pull the cover off, get some sealant, and ure fine... Although getting to those bolts may be a bitch and i stripped one of mine

    that is my guess...

    directions:

clean area thourghly with brake cleaner and rags.
then dump in a couple ounces of florecent oil die(into your oil cap)
drive for a good 100+ miles.
take it to a shop and have them shine their black light on it.

from there you will be able to see exactly where the oil is coming from. or if it's just a residue from something else.. but i got money on rear main seal. just an fyi, it's a $40 part. but it's about $800-1000 in labor from the dealer.

    good luck

yeah ^... it's a lotta labor for a gay part. good luck with it.
mine was leaking right there as well, upon further inspection it turned out to be my Cam plug seal that was leaking. still a hella ton in labor though

Re: Put the car on the lift and look what i found!

well there is no leak there cause thats where the clutch goes its a dry area, its like that from engine sludge build up and when u drive your car it moves around or you have a leak elsewhear and it moved its way there i had that on my car when i took out the engine, tranny, all you got to do is clean the whole bottom end and then inspect the underneak for any leaks

it may be intended to be a "dry area". but that does not magically stop oil from leaking there. trust me. the rear main seal will leak, and it will seep to that area(as well as many other things can leave residue there)

true not gonna deny that cause mine was dirty in there

but it wouldnt do that much he would have noticed his clutch slipping if that much got in there

just depends on how long this leak has gone un noticed. it's pretty probable actually

Re: Put the car on the lift and look what i found!

its your cam tensioner seals. looks like a rear main seal but its not and the other is your output shaft seal in the trans. ALL very common and not too difficult to do. great flat rate job cause the book says 4 hour per tensioner seal and 3 for the output shaft seal so unless you have 1000 bux to drop try it yourself
    i heart my s4

Re: Put the car on the lift and look what i found!

the right side tensioner drips down the back of the head around the tranny and looks likke the rear main. but always start highest up when doing oil leaks. so vc gaskets and tensioner seals should be your first start. the left on drips down the front of the block and onto the IC pipe. the output shaft seal drips onto your cats
    i heart my s4

You are correct. It's called torsen, which is tor-sen, which is short for torque-sensing.

Next time you have the belly pan off, check the rear edge of the oil pan. The oil pan doesn't have an actual gasket, it just gets sealed with silicone sealer and assembled. If the oil pan is leaking back there it will blow all over the place under the car. One of the most obvious places is that area where the engine mates to the tranny (as you showed). The triangular vents in the belly pan funnel air right past that path and creates a nice spray of oil mist at certain times. As for it getting on the turbo outlet pipes, the pictures you have shown, have oil on the hoses but there are no visible signs of oil on the turbo itself and if the turbo were leaking oil, it would be more visible at the gasket between the turbine and the downpipe.
