    Boost controller question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Which is a better boost controller the Profec Type S or the Profec B 2 for running a 2871R elminator with Revo? I want something simple that has a high/low setting and is more or less set and forget. I like the Eboost but really don't want an additional gauge pod/pillar pod etc. Will the Profec unit fit where the B6 cup holder resides?

    Re: Boost controller question

I want an EBC that allows for both a low and high setting but simple, easy to use. I'd like to be able to tuck it into the cupholder space or in the space of the ashtray, something clean! Wondering if the Profec will fit. As for running the stock N75 I've been doing that with no problems although with the plans to add water/meth I think it would be a good idea to get an EBC to get the most out of my setup. Thanks

Profec will not fit where the ashtray or cupholder is. You can fit a Apex'i AVC-R in the ashtray with a Dremel

Either one of those will work if your looking for that size display, the Profec Type S is more basic if thats what your looking for!

to the OP, i hope you have the proper software for a boost controller, yes u may be pushing more boost, but starving your car for fuel and air. I try to stay away from a boost controller but i could see someone using it if they have the software to crank up the boost..

I used (and still have sitting here) a Forge UNOS when I first went BT, EBC is the way to go, A BT isnt worth shit if you get caught with the boost down!

I think there is a Profec type S on here or the Vortex for 250 and is new. I just bought one off the Vortex for 200 shipped and was in the car for about 1k miles. You just have to search.

    Re: Boost controller question

profec B should run around 250 if i remember... the main benefit is low/high settings, and the ability to create a boost spike in lower rpms and taper it off from there without over-boosting the turbo... little extra lag, tons of midrange tourque, and a little more difficult to tune. plus you get the fancy lite-up gofast parts lurking around the car...

my vote is still mbc, and they make switchable (high/low) mbc's for you push-button boost junkies

    Re: Boost controller question

I already have a AWE vent gauge and would like to keep it, is it ok to just T-off my existing vac line from the boost gauge to the Profec B spec II. I'm anxious to get this dialed in, I'm sure it will take a little time, what's a good starting point low/high settings along with the gain for this unit. What SPS settings should I start with, I'll be logging with VAG but a starting point would be helpful. Thanks

    Re: Boost controller question

    My specs:

    SPS3: T6/B9

    Profec B Spec II:

Hi Boost setting (76%). This boosts me to 22 PSI. Yours may vary due to wastegate spring pressue.

Set Gain: 170 (17.PSI) This is the boost pressure at which the wastegate begins to open. The closer you set this to your desired boost level, the faster your spool up because it keeps the wastegate closed longer instead of having it creap open like MBC's tend to do. However, if you set this too close to your desired boost level, you risk the chance of boost spiking higher than the set level you want.

    Re: Boost controller question

My low setting like 68%. Also, it doesn't matter if you T off from your boost gauge. The profec only uses that as a reference to determine when/how to bleed off boost to the wastegate from the solenoid.

Oh, and give you real time vacuum/boost readings.

I haven't used the spec II in 3 or 4 years, but that looks good.

    Re: Boost controller question

Quick question regarding the setup of this unit?

The boost control valve for the Profec B Spec II has Three location for setup I want to make sure I have this correct. One of the vac lines runs from the COM location to the actuator, and the 2nd runs from the NO location to the turbo compressor housing correct???? I leave the NC location empty since theres no external wastegate, right. I shouldn't have to plug it???
When removing the N75 from the picture do I need to plug all the holes and leave the harness connected? What's the best way to setup? Thanks

What wires are best to tap for power? Also how far can the control valve, soleniod be from the actuator, I'd like to mount it behind to the radiator support somewhere out of the way. Can it be mounted anywhere? I thought I read something about it needing to be so many inches from the actuator. Thanks,

I've set the Hi Boost setting (76%). and the Set Gain: 170 (17.PSI). What is the gain setting all about, It goes from 5-35%? What should it be set at for running the following setup above?

That setting is to adjust boost consistency. Meaning, if you're set to boost 20 PSI but at higher RPMs, it falls to like 18PSI, this is where you would raise this gain setting to a high percentage in order to have boost keep a constant pressure level throughout the RPM range. If the opposite is happening, where you set boost pressure at 20 PSI but it climbs higher as you go up in RPMs, then you'd reduce the setting to a lower percentage.

Start at 5% for now..then adjust as needed.

    Re: Boost controller question

Alright guys finally got everything hooked up. Need some more help dialing this thing in. Right off I noticed a huge difference over the N75 the car feels awesome, less laggy and pulls great. I wish I did this along time ago. I think I can improve it a bit more but not sure where to start, need some help.

    SPS setting T6 B9

    LOW
    Low setting 55%
    Gain 5%
    Set Gain 160
    Low warning 19
With this setting it appears to peak at 20psi and hold, I get a warning. I'd like to be around 18psi. Should I just start by lowering my low setting from 55% to 50%? If yes how should I change my set gain?

    Re: Boost controller question

Reduce your low setting to 50% and see what happens. If you get that 18 PSI and it does't spike over that, then you're fine. If you find that reducing your low setting to attain 18 PSI but it's spiking to higher boost levels, then you need to reduce your Set Gain lower, maybe to about 150 (15 PSI)

I change it up quite often. I know that 76% gets me like 22 PSI. and 68% keeps me below 20 PSI.

How does the limiter work. If i set my warning to 23 psi, The limiter gives me a % 0-20. How did you set up to limit at 25psi?

    Re: Boost controller question

The limiter sets how much reduction in boost you want if you exceed your warning boost level set. Sorry, I sometimes get confused on how this unit works.

So basically, the warning level is what you set to 25 PSI then if boost exceeds that 25 PSI, then that when the limiter comes in and reduces boost a certain percentage that you set...which can be 1 - 20%.
