    Question Vehicle background check

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am looking at a used S4 and wondered whether anyone here would have the ability to check on the vehicle background and service history for me.

Is this something that an Audi dealer is normally willing to give out?

    The VIN is WUAGL78E36A700177.

If you'd rather not post the information in public, by all means PM me or send an email to isb1 at mac dot com.

Also, would anyone like to provide an opinion on a fair price for a 2006 Anniversary S4 with <10k miles?

If the stars align, I hope to go and view the vehicle this weekend and quit being an AZ wannabe.

    Cheers, Ian

    Re: Vehicle background check

Ask the seller to provide you with the vehicle history from a reputable source. Any decent seller should do this for you for free, if he's the least bit serious about selling the car. If he refuses, he either has something to hide or he's not serious about selling the car, at which point you should probably walk away. However, if you wish to proceed anyway, there are several web sites that can perform a vehicle check for you:

    http://www.carfax.com/
    http://www.autocheck.com/

It's not free, but if you're in the market for an S4 of any type, the cost is negligible.

Theres your Carfax report. Come's up clean.

That being said, i have recently come across a lot of reports and info from carfax that has been incorrect, wrong odometer readings, both higher and lower, and lots of vehicles that come up clean and yet have still been in collisions.

For example, my mothers 2004 Mazda tribute has been rear ended 3 times, one of the times it was 16 grand to fix it, and it still gets a completely clean carfax report.

Wow - that was fast! Thanks for the quick responses.

    Any ideas on dealer history?

Edmunds and kbb seem to indicate market value for a 2006 25th anniversary to be about the same as a 2007 that's pretty well loaded. What's the AZiner wisdom on this?

    Cheers, Ian

    Re: Vehicle background check

KBB overprices everything to me, especially Audi's. Right now with the downturn in consumer spending and the economy i think you will have some definite wiggle room on price with dealers.

For example, i just bought a 2006 GTI with only 12000 miles on it for $17,500 when the dealer was asking 20,999. I also have almost locked down a 2008 TT 3.2 quattro coupe, loaded with navi for $40,000.

Just really shop around, and don't discount the idea of buying from across the country, its so cheap to ship vehicles that if you find a great deal, you can have it shipped to you for under $1000.

    Thats my opinion at least.

Test drive it and take it to carmax. Tell 'em you want to sell it to them and they'll tell you what's wrong with it... they're crazy!

LOL, good idea, but I'm sure they'd notice the dealer plate on the back of the car as well as run a VIN check and see that it was registered to a dealer.

    Re: Vehicle background check

for comparison sake, I'm selling my 07 S4 (it's in the classifieds) w/ 9k miles for $40,900. Mine has pretty much every option except for rear sunshades and rear parking sensors. it's in perfect condition and it's a 6spd.

From what I've seen my car is one of the lowest priced 07's out there, especially w/the mileage and options that it has. What is the dealer asking for the 06 that you're looking at and is it Certified?
