Next week Im getting a set of VMR V715's and I am going to have them painted. I have two Ideas but I cant decide what would be better.

1. Paint the spokes satin black and paint the lip gloss black.

2. Paint the spokes and color match the lip to my car (light silver).

I dont want to leave the lip polished because nothing else is chrome on my car and it would stick out.

Both rings are black, grilles are black, exhaust is getting ceramic coated black. So the chrome is going to look out of place. Im definitely doing the black wheel, I just cant decide on the lip.

mine is the same, i have everything blacked out so far, rear rings black, front grill is badgeless, rear has a4 & 1.8t removed, and i bought a set of ADR staggered wheels off of ebay and i hate polished lips ( no offense to anyone who has them) but as tints said it wouldnt fit in with my car either... so (just waiting for the bashing to begin) i painted the wheels completely flat black and it is the sickest shit i've ever seen, and im not gonna post pics until i put them on the car... i am thinking of getting them powdercoated in flat black, it will last me longer...



but Tints, go for the all black wheels, and we will be the only ones... and i know some of you are gonna be like "i cant believe you ruined those wheels" or "you destroyed perfectly good wheels" but whatever, i love it and when its all done, i think others will love it too....

I heard the VMR wheels are super low quality especially those that are polished. IIRC the clear peels off like icing on a donut.

Correct and ask them how long it takes before they begin to chip or peel, I'm not to sure about the painted wheels but the polished ones flake for sure.

polished wheels shouldnt have a clear on them anyways... it clouds the polish.

strip those bitches and get some mag/aluminum polish and a power ball.

i think satin black centers + gloss lip will look sweet if you're going for the murdered look. (which from your description you are... except you have a silver car....)

I would stick to how they come, or possibly paint the lip silver to eliminate the 'polished' look, if it doesn't flow with your car.

The lips arent polished IIRC, they are chromed and then clearcoated. Those are WAY too shiny to be polished!!!

Im really surprised no one else has these wheels, sick design IMO, I was looking at them way back when but they wouldnt clear the Alcon's

Its good for a visible shiny/mirror finish (not requiring repolishing) but if not done correctly the clearcoat will peel and make a mess/look horrible!

The VMR 715s are SICK wheels! I only bought my VMR RS4 reps because of the deal I got from a forum member, otherwise these would be on my car.

Go for it Absolute, these wheels look incredible! Oh and btw I haven't had any issues with the finish on my set of VMRs.

After seeing the v715's on a car I think they look too small. I also dont like the one extra spoke that they have compared to the reservs. I like the reservs because its the style of the b7 rs4 wheels with a lip. I always thought the v715's were like that but then I noticed they have an extra spoke, and it kind of ruined it for me

If you black out the rim/lip, then it's going to look smaller in diameter than it actually is. I'd paint the center and brush the lip a bit like it was suggested earlier. That way you have some definition.
Also, I'm not sure why people want split spoke wheels then black them out. You can't see the detail when it's blacked out, so what's the point, but hey, that's me.

I like the style of the wheels and I like black wheels, but I think all black will be too dark so Im going to try the color matched lip idea. If I dont like it I can always change it. Now I have to get a quote on paint (which is probably going to be a lot).
