How bad do you think this is? **pic**

Hey guys so the other night, I was rear ended at a stop light. The girl behind me left her foot off the brake on an AT car, and slightly bumper tapped me. I wanted to show you guys the picture of the damage to see what you guys thought about it. Basically the screws of her license plate punctured two holes into my bumper, with misc. scratches/scrapes on the rear bumper. Thanks

The pictures actually dont show the scratches, but there are several in between those two holes What do you guys think? I am hoping S4 rear but I dont think its that bad. Opinions!?!?

No picture visible, but I am guessing bumper repair and repaint. Figure $400 to $1100 in the Bay Area depending on where you go and if you are getting a new bumper or not. A truck backed into my Miata and his hitch dented my bumper. So these prices come from those estimates from several years ago. I would think a good job could be had for ~$600 for patching and paint. If you insist on a new bumper expect at least $1000.

You can do a tiny diy fix...its not bad...show a pic from further away so we can better see the proportion to the bumper?
Oh and if you do get a diff bumper, S4 all the way.

PS: No insurance on her side?

Its going to depend on whether the bumper is mend able. If not than make sure you take it to a shop you know and get them to cover the S4 rear or hell even tell them youll pay the little bit extra for it.

I had the same thing happen to my Avant. The shop replaced the bumper cover and painted everything. $1275 was the total, but then I wasn't paying!

i bought my car with 2 holes almost exactly like that in the rear bumper. the dealership i got it from was FULL of cars, and they parked another one wayyyy too close to it. and thats what happend ^^

they guy that does my body work took care of it no problem. he just cut out the damaged areas and "plastic welded" a patch panel in its place. looks good as new.

there is no need to replace the bumper because of that, it just needs to be 180 grit sanded a little plastic repair, block sand that prime it sand it paint it its not a big deal at all. i would have that done and back on the car in a day and you yould never know it had been hit.

Agree with everyoone else, no need for a whole nwe bumper. My car got hit in the back at a car wash with my buddy's TT and it cost the car wash $987 for a new bumper and paint job. and 1300 for my buddy's TT.

Re: How bad do you think this is? **pic**

So I had my body guy take a look at the bumper. He immediately told me to go through insurance saying that I needed to replace the bumper. What you don't see in the pix are swirls in the paint, almost looks like scratches but u can only see it at certain angles. He said something about the bumper not working well with those "filler" methods mentioned in this post since its made of plastic essentially. Either way, I am looking for an S4 rear now....I still need to talk to the boyfriend of the girl who hit my car. The costs are nearly identical for a stock and s4 rear correct? Would I need an entirely new rebar? What else is needed to fit onto my A4's arse?

^first -- dont talk to the boyfriend. talk to her or her parents.

second -- i dont know how long it's been... but if you didnt get a police report, you need to get money from them ASAP. technically speaking, if you dont get a report within 24 hrs she's probably not going to have to pay for anything.

third -- if possible, i would try to get them to just cut you a check based on the average of quotes from a couple body shops. that'll keep everyone's rates down, and it'll be a lot easier to just spend the money on what you want... that damage is so small you could probably pocket the change and DIY or have a buddy who's good with body work do it and come out on top with a fixed bumper.

one thing i'd be worried about is the paint spider cracking over time... you CAN do a quick fix and it might be ok. or it might just get worse down the line.

Re: How bad do you think this is? **pic**

And I dont understand why my rates would go up? I was involved in another accident where a 17 yr old girl hit my car in the parking lot. I filed a police report and filed a claim with my insurance company and my premiums did not increase. In regards to this accident, the owner of the car actually works for one of the dealerships that I frequently do business with, and I wanted to save him some trouble by not filing an insurance claim. His girl was driving a Ford Fusion when the accident occurred. There are several spider cracks along the bumper, and I definitely want to get a new bumper so I dont have to worry about my paint looking like $hit

That can be fixed for sure. I work at a body shop and we can fix those all day long without any problems. No different than people having the lic. plate holes filled and painted. If you decide to go that route it wouldn't be a problem to repair that. I myself, like others have mentioned, I would take the money and put it towards an S4 bumper!
