i'm in search of a new oil pan because mine has a pinhole leak it. i called the dealership and they want 225 for a new one. ive done some searching and found a few websites with much cheaper prices. has anyone ever bought any of these products? or know where i can get a good one at a decent price? here's the site i was looking at:

    Re: oil pan

I had to replace mine when i hit a curb and cracked my old one. I picked this one up off ebay and it worked great. I ended up selling the car a few months after i put it on but it worked great and fit perfect with no leaks while i had the car. I would recommend it you dont want to spend 200bills. Im pretty sure its the same pan that is listed on your website. But its only 60bills after shipping. Here is the link.

nice, thanks. thats what i was lookin for. 225 just seemed like way too much for an oil pan. what did you use to seal yours with? the dealer said they use silicon. any know of any substitutes?

    Re: oil pan

My oil pan that we took off had some type of metal gasket on it. We carfully took that off and used it for the new one. We also used some type of sealent. I can't remember the name of it right now, but i can get it tonight when i get home from work if you want to know the name of it. The tricky part that we screwed up was putting the bolts back in on the new oil pan. Aperently there are one or two bolts that are different then the others. Make sure you pay attention to which holes you are taking which bolts out of. Just make sure you screw the bolts in enough that they wont leak but not enough that it will strip the threads out. Its kinda tricky, but if you have a lift and the right tools it only took me about an hour to swap them out(most of that time was taking out and screwing in bolts). Let me know if you want the name of that sealent or if you have any other questions.

    Re: oil pan

yea i'd like the name of the sealant. i really only want to put it on once. thanks for the heads up on the bolts. i probably would have just taken them out and dropped them assuming they were all the same size.

    Re: oil pan

I think the seal that we used was called permagasket.

thanks for the help, i was thinking permagasket or permatex. just wondered if there was some special 500 dollar tube of silicone made "specially" for audi's

    Re: oil pan

nah actually the audi stuff is a type of three bond, its not the sealant that is the problem its the matting surface, or the flanges that is not wide enough, its hard to discribe but on alot of japanese cars i have worked on there is more mating surface, also around the bolt the mating surface is expanded giving more protections

the sealant works better than the paper or metal gasket, but you have to spread it out evenly to seal well, i found that works better than making a line like the instructions recommend on these oil pans

heres a pic of my upper oil pan for what im talking about
