Replacing Battery in my 2002 A$ Quattro

Replacing the battery in my 2002 A4 Quattro 3.0 seems a little more difficult than batteries I've replaced in the past. Anyone got some experience to share on that?

I finally found the bolt securing the battery in place, but it looks like its going to be a real pain just to get the battery out. I really don't want to take it to the dealership to have them change the battery, but I also don't want to get in over my head.

    Help please!!!

Slide a ball head hex key down there and slowly back that bolt out. Then just pull the battery straight out. Not difficult.

yes. you can pull it right off. its just a breather hose.

i got a duralast, fits pefect and way lighter than the oem battery. 5 year warranty. it will come with a rubber hose that connects to the breather hose.

I read good things here on optima red tops but can't speak from personal experience.

12/23/09 - My car has been phenomenal to me. Runs strong. Don't think I'm ever going to sell it. Rather throw $7k into it for a refresh than buy a new A4 that has no dipstick.

optima batteries are great if you need a ton of cranking amps and deep cycle ability.... I think you'd only need something that expensive and capable if you were doing big stereo, or using a DC->AC inverter.

I went through three yellow tops in my last car over five years with a 3+kW competition grade stereo. Any lesser battery would have been replaced on a monthly basis. The batteries were replaced under waranty(and some trickery!). Unless you're pushing a few thousand watts, you have no need for an expensive and extremely heavy optima unless the waranty, sealed gel-cell tech and reliability outweighs a 50lb, $180 dollar optima.

I recently bought an autozone replacement for the OEM battery. It starts the car!

Hey Scary Gary, thanks for the tip. Was the replacement you got at Autozone a Duralast?

My OEM battery exploded one day a few years back! my dad started the car and boom, crappy smell smoke and when the dealer pulled out the battery, it had blown out the side! costed us $250 for a new one installed at the dealer, having no warranty sux up the ass!
