I want to lower it, but I don't know how

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Here's my dilemma, I like my ride quality. I think it's great. Could do without the understeer but I believe that a sway bar might help that. Now I JUST want to lower it. Not looking for stiff springs or a higher quality handling, I just want it lower.

    1. Can I cut my stock springs? (Good and bad of this?)
    2. If I bought after market springs, will it ride shitty?
    3. Can this be done? :)

    3. Cant be done. Can only be done on 2001 and up. jk.

If you buy aftermarket springs its going to make it stiff no matter what. Some companys let you choose your spring rate which could help to the cause. Could go Air-Ride. ha.

Re: I want to lower it, but I don't know how

Normally you get more stiffness the lower you go.
If you are serious about your ride quality, dont lower it without upgrading shocks as well.
Im current driving on the H&R race springs with the stock struts, it drives great, but the ride isnt.
This car isnt a civic, dont cut the springs.
The springs will take away some of the understeer

You can only cut the springs if its a $400 S13.

At which point, you also have to weld the diff.

i have koni coilovers from an s4.... in all honesty i think it rides better than stock despite being about 2-2.5" lower than stock

you have to increase spring rate when the car is lowered otherwise it would bottom out everywhere and your tires would rub. if you go with a quality coilover you don't have to sacrifice ride comfort for handling/looks suspension is one of the places you don't want to cheap out on. skips the sways, just get coilovers. no need for swaybars if you're not going with sticky tires

I think the Pro kit is the most comfy. Trade off is you don't get as low. I would get that whole Eibach pro kit "kit". The one that comes with pro kit shocks and springs. I saw a new set on Ebay last week for like $550 shipped.

dont waste your money on either. do it right, do it the first time. trust me, you wont be satisfied with just a spring & strut/shock combo and youll only end up ripping that out and replacing them with real coilovers in the end.

see if you cant locate yourself a set of decent coilovers used. i found my koni's with 2-3k on them for $600. ride like a dream

Re: I want to lower it, but I don't know how

why does everyone hate on spring and strut combos? the only reason i would buy coils is if i found them used, i will never adjust them, ever.

a vogtland/koni combo would be good, the bilsteins are a little stiffer.

Re: I want to lower it, but I don't know how

I guess everyone has had a different experience with their suspension that's made them love or hate what they had. ...I haven't experienced an after market suspension yet.

And about that S4 suspension, someone wants to sell me his s4 suspension and it seems like a good deal.
