    Question cross-over / H-pipe...?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I asked this once before, but never got an answer: Has anyone ever installed an H-pipe or cross-over pipe after the DP's? They're commonly used on V8 mustangs and F-body cars. There have been documented studies on pressure balancing between seperated engine banks via connector pipes, even though the exhaust is technical a "dual" [seperate] system. I know most of our systems collect in the resonator or muffler at the end anyways, but I just wasn't sure if there would be potential gains by joining them a lot earlier (i.e. post secondary cats). It would really just be a "communication" pipe (1.5-2" O.D. max) between the two pipes...

    Discuss.

Good question, I've wondered that too... I doubt it would be much if any gain. Surely one of these aftermarket manufacturers would have explored that idea? I wonder, but it seems like the true dual systems make slightly more power tho?

I believe the H pipes and X pipes will only affect Normally aspirated cars. I think it has something to do with scavenging and using the pulses to help the exhaust move out. With a turbo in the way, we don't get much pulsing.

    Re: cross-over / H-pipe...?

dimcorner is right. i had both an h and an x pipe on my older mustang, and the primary reasons are to decrease the "pulsing" in the exhaust which is supposed to help flow the exhaust out quicker. im sure it wouldnt hurt to put one in tho. if i were to do put something like that in i would put in an x pipe.

In a turbo car its not going to make that big of a difference. For NA its going to be night and day. Just do straight pipes and youll be good.
