Does Anyone know how to remove an Cigarette light/ electrical socket??

I have a 2001 Audi A4. I've been wanting to replace the socket for a while. I haven't figured what I really need to remove. I have searching online for some DIY help, but no luck.

If its anything like the my 99 the whole ashtray Assembly pulls out and the back of the socket should unscrew and you just pull it out.

nope...My cigarette lighter is right by my hand break. and it swivels up. so in yours it's next to your ash tray. The 01' has it's lighter in the mid-center console. right of the hand break. Thanks though.

Its the top far left box. It looks like I might have to replace the whole thing instead.

is it broken or just not working?

    have you checked your fuses?

if you have to take it out loks like you'll need to remove the whole center console, start by taking the arm rest off

removing the center console is really easy. 5 minute job. pop out the rear ash tray and remove the two bolts, remove the two screws up front attaching it to the front part of the center console, remove the handbrake cover by undoing the screw/catch at the base of the handle (not the lever itself). there may be a bolt under the cupholders under the armrest, but i dont remember off hand. dont forget the electrical connector underneath though. disconnect it before moving the console too far.

look at the handle part, not the whole lever. it is underneath where the part you grab meets the rest of the lever. you could just force it off and break the screw, but i wouldnt recomend that.
