    Chip/Intake question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does anyone know why or the benefits of pressurizing the intake during the chipping process?

I'm getting an APR tomorrow and was told the shop includes pressurizing the intake during install.

    Thanks.

    Re: Chip/Intake question

Are you sure you heard them correctly? APR directport chipping does not require anything other than software work. Perhaps they were planning on inspecting your diverter valve and PCV valve?

i'm sure he said they'd 'pressurize the intake', which i assume inspects the valves for leakage.

Hmmm... My shop told me that they have to check the muffler bearings before they chipped the car.

    Re: Chip/Intake question

Mine gave me Vtech fluid. Quattro works a lot better now

When you get APR, all they do is plug a computer into a port under your dash. Takes 10 minutes of "transferring" and that's it.
    Ignorance is bliss.

They gave me a burrito before they flashed my ECU with the APR trial. That might be what they're talking about.

    Re: Chip/Intake question

never heard of a shop doing this before chipping, but it sounds like a good idea to me...

i'm sure they do it to make sure you have no boost leaks. The new program raises boost levels. At higher boost levels, your whole intake system is more prone to leaking/developing a leak when it becomes pressurized.

Of course I'm sure every now and then they get a customer that lacks power wanting a flash done....they find out that their lack of power was because they had a leak and weren't even making boost to begin with.

    Simply a preventative check...that's all.

This thread is getting cheesy melty.

OP, you need to ask the tuner what he meant by pressurizing your intake, and what that will do.
