*** APR SNUB MOUNT = Rough IDLE

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I installed the (red) apr snub mount last night, and now my idle is shit. feels like my car has been transformed a giant black vibrator!

well, anyways... on recomendation from achtuning I soaked the mount in wd-40 before installing it on the snub bracket and bolting it in. where did i go wrong?

    Cheers..

Did you loosen everything to hand tight and idle the engine for a minute or to without reving BEFORE you tightened it all back down?

Re: *** APR SNUB MOUNT = Rough IDLE

nothing is wrong sir ... its doin its job. I had a Honda Civic .. pretty crazy car .. had Arizona Racing Motor Mounts ... Same concept as the APR snub mount.... So it didnt bother me because I knew what to expect. The best thing is that the snub mount is NO WHERE near as bad as full motor mounts, so ... yeah. ... get used to it or take it off ... thats what performance parts do ...

Not trying to be a prick btw... just common sense

Re: *** APR SNUB MOUNT = Rough IDLE

it should break in within a week. i noticed rough idle on my a4 when i first installed the snub...but then it wore in an never noticed it again. it wasn't completely horrible or anything but it was noticeable and enough to bother me....but it went away.

With all due respect, there shouldn't be anything different in idle from a snub on our cars if it was installed correctly.

I'll try that thanks! btw, once i get into the rev's the car smooths out completely. i might have a bad maf situation going on which is exaspirated by the new snubber.

i would hope that our mid level german luxo cars idle a bit smoother than a honda civic rice burner. but i get what you're saying though.

Re: *** APR SNUB MOUNT = Rough IDLE

like i said...give it a week and see whats up. i had my apr installed by al from CPT and i noticed the vibrations as soon as i got in...i also noticed it cleaned up my DT slop. about a week after driving...i never had any vibrations. mine never cracked/ripped/broke or any of the above. if its still doing it...swap to ecs snub.

listen to OLDGUY too, his solution worked for me. i of course made the mistake of tightening it all first..

2nd ^^, If vibration at fully warmed up idle in neutral increased, the snub is not centered in the pocket bracket. The snub must not touch the bracket with engine idling in neutral gear. (Or, for Tip trans, in "D"rive and "R"everse.)

Re: *** APR SNUB MOUNT = Rough IDLE

JUST AN FYI, i did loosen the mount, ran the car at idle and then tightened and it took away most of the idle roughness, but it wasnt till i had my car worked on taoday at NGP racing did the rougness go away. somewhere between the new R1 dv, apr software and the new green top temp sensor the roughness is completely gone! so it may not be all the snubs fault.

    just my 2 lincolns.

I took my snub and machined(ground) about 1mm off each side so it would slide into the cup and barely touch the top and bottom. After I installed it I just let the cup rest on the top of it and tightened it.

Re: *** APR SNUB MOUNT = Rough IDLE

my apr snub has been on for 10k and its been strong. i've also got it used so it probably has about 20k to it.

no extra vibrations, but shifting is smoother. during intall, make sure you loosen "cup" it goes on, and turn on the car to let the mount settle itself.... make minute adjustments to get it centered as much as you can and tighten the bolts. enjoy!

Snub mount cannot touch the bracket its sitting in. It has to be completely centered. If its touching the bracket it will pass vibration to the frame of the car.

My APR Snub has been perfect since install. No vibrations of any sort, good product but you get used to it fast.
