    Question about brakes.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am replacing my brake pads with PBR creamics and ECS cross drilled and slotted rotors this weekend. My question is, if any of you have done brakes on your B7, did you also have the brakes bled, or is it necessary. My car only has 27k miles on it, but I wanted to get a good idea from anyone who may know. Thanks.

    Re: Question about brakes.

You may be able to cheat and not bleed- new pads just push fluid back up into the resevior- the system stays sealed. Still if you've driven hard and gotten the brakes to fade or glaze, it's better to bleed and have fresh fluid.

I agree. If you're going to all the effort to replace those parts, then do the WHOLE job correctly and have new fluid put in and the system bled.
It's really easy to do, so why not just do it.

    Agreed.

Since your going with new pads and rotors, you might as well flush the system and put some better brake fluid in as well. I've had good luck with DOT 4 ATE Super Blue Racing fluid.

    Re: Question about brakes.

Agreed. You don't have to bleed the lines at all though. If you don't own a piston compressor tool, I would recommend renting one from AutoZone or something, since I think it's the fronts that you have to twist the piston as you push it back into the caliper.

Brakes are brakes, they're all the same. Make sure you don't strip the guide pins

keep us posted on how you like the new setup. I'm thinking of doing the same thing but with SS lines also.

Yes, you'd have to re-bleed the entire system. Last thing you want would be stomp on your brake pedal as hard as you can just to not rear-end the guy in front of you...and still hit him.

    Re: Question about brakes.

I'm not going to lie... I had PBR ceramic pads on my first VW for a while. They grabbed great, pad life was mediocre, and they were dusty as hell. They stop good though

    Re: Question about brakes.

It's the rears that require the piston retractor tool and if you're under warranty, why not have the dealer flush and bleed your brakes. They're supposed to do that service at least once during the 50k.
