Has anyone hard wired a Valentine on your A5/S5?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello guys. I own an A5, and I am wondering if anyone has hard wired a Valentine radar on their car. If someone has done this, would you mind sharing some info. If not, I will make a post with detailed instruction to possible tie-in points.

I didn't know there was anything to hard wire, i think you just mount them in your car, the higher the better i believe

Re: Has anyone hard wired a Valentine on your A5/S5?

Option 1: Either fuse tap in following link:http://forums.audiworld.com/a5/msgs/20612.phtml

Option 2: "Remove the dome light/homelink panel by opening the sunglass holder and removing the one torx screw. Find the little 5 wire harness that plugs into the homelink buttons, and the wire on the very right is black with a white stripe. Tap that one for a switched 12v, and ground can be found at a body screw right above it all. This allowed me to use a 12" phone wire to complete this, and I didn't have to remove any pillars/use a fuse holder/etc."

Up to you where you want to mount the V1, some like upper left, some like on top of rear view mirrow, I place mine right underneath rearview mirror towards the driver more.

Thank you for your help YelloJello. You just made my life easier.

I agree with your radar position. Makes it easier to read.

Re: Has anyone hard wired a Valentine on your A5/S5?

I have a feeling that most people driving an S5 don't live in an area where people are so short for cash that they will bash in a window for a radar detector. And anyway, even if it isn't hardwired, most people don't put it away every time they park their car, so it doesn't make a difference.

I like to hardwire the radar, just for cosmetic purposes. I really don't like the idea of a cable running from the lighter to the radar.

Has anyone found a mirror mount that will work in the A5?

I hardwired my V1 in my S5. It was very easy to do and definitely worth doing. I used a fuse tap so I didnt have to splice any wires. Definitely get the bone tool to tuck the wire into the pillar.

Who says you have to leave the radar detector on the windshield with a hardwire install? If you go to a sketchy area unplug the radar detector and take it with you. The thing isnt permanently fused to the car.

You know, I didn't even notice the dates until you said something. There have been so incredibly many silly noob questions in this forum the last few weeks that I thought this was just another one, it fit in perfectly. I may soon be found in an institution, wrapped in my very own straitjacket, rocking back and forth mumbling "....if they'd only use the search function....just use the search function...."

Maybe I should have started a new thread instead of tagging on to this one, but my question is not about hard wiring which I have done with all my cars but rather mounting a V1. I don't like having it sit in the middle of the windshield on suction cups. Blendmount and others do a nice job of making an attachment for the rear view mirrors, but they don't make one for A5/S5's, so i wanted to see if anyone had found another solution.

I am sure someone once said the same thing about you.

I am getting ready to drop a V1 in my car so this thread has been helpful to me.
