    S4 tranny in a 2.8

Since my 1st gear is going out in my car and it would cost about $1200 to get it rebuilt i was thinking of buying a S4 tranny and swaping it out. Now as for my question i would like to know from someone who has done this or has more experiance.

Would this be a plug and play swap or do i need anything like an S4 linkage, axels, mounts or anything else? I have seen an S4 transmission in person and it looks same as mine. I figure for the same price i can get something different in my car.

    Thanks guys

Not worth it. You need the front uprights, axles, rear diff, shifter and linkage...there might be more. Do a search this has been discussed at great length.

If you can get your old one rebuilt for $1200.00 thats a good deal.

You can get a used 2.8 tranny in the sub $400 range. Look at a local auto salvage yard.

I thought of that option i just dont want to run into the same problem with a used one from the junkyard. $400 is a darn good price

harry's u-pull-it in pennsburg, pa had 35 dollar trans week a few weeks ago and they had a 2.8 I was looking to pull but never did. Real easy get to the engine was already out so everything was right there. Would have taken 20 min.
