exhaust?

does any one on here get there resonator removed and replaced with a straight pipe?? i took a look underneath my car and there is a huge resonator right before the rear axle...this thing is the size of a briefcase...the guy at the local shop said he could cut it out and put straight pipes in for like 200 dollars......any thoughts??

Stock exhaust? Leave the resonators on. It'll drone like no tomorrow without the resonators.

yea it is my stock exhaust.....but there still is the resonators right after the dp's...

I have no resonators in my exhaust, just a muffler on each side. I like it but it is loud.

I'm about a day away from taking the resonators out of my Milltek cat back. Just isn't loud enough for me anymore, especially after listening to all the great clips on this site of everyone else's non-res systems. I have zero drone in the car now so I'm hoping by doing this I won't have too much. I guess I can always put them back on. BTW, $200 to put in straight pipe? That job shouldn't take more than an hour. I think whoever is doing the work for you is overcharging. Check around.

Drone means that the exhaust at certain RPM's really resonates throughout the cabin like a droning noise. The Resonators help get rid of this. If you want it loud - cut em out and see what it sounds like. You can always weld different resonators back in...

Also, about the price to to remove the resonator is way too high. Shop around a little and you'll find better deal. Last time I got quoted was around $45 at the reputable local shop.

I got it done for $80 and it sounds OK, no drone really but it does have a strange rasp to it. Not bad it's just strange from in the car, though it sounds better from outside. I could maybe get a sound clip.

I'm still working on getting a clip together for you even though it's not really going to sound the same as if you did it. You have stock exhaust and want to remove the resonators right?

i took the resonator out, and just added 2 after market mufflers.
sounds great, very deep, and you get a drone drone drone drone drone at 3k

I only have a little drone between 1500 and 1800K and I'm never really in that rev range so no problem. On the freeway with the windows up, all you hear is a nice growl - no drone at all. So, if Fitz is doin this on a stock set up, it'll probably end up with drone. In any case, just wanted to offer up my experience with the Milltek that started life as a res system in case anyone was looking to do that too.

Ok I finally had a little time to make a sound clip. Not the best filming by a friend of mine, but I think everyone will get the point. Again, my Milltek cat-back started life as a resonated version. I recently took the resonators out and replaced them with straight pipe. I'm pretty happy with the way it sounds. Let me know what you think.

it seems like the consensus is pretty negative with removing the stock resonators...with that being said, i just installed the corsa cb system less than a week ago and i have fallen in love with my car all over again! if you are looking for a good system, i would highly recommend!!
