    Question All road or S6?

I need some help here everyone...

So I love my 2.7T sedan but I've always been an Avant kind of guy.
My first love was a 2002 S6 and back in the days I sold it because I switched jobs as soon as I got it. It was brand new and the monthly payments were very high so I had to sell it. I've always have liked the S6 Avant but most of the remaining S6s out there are now out of warranty and they cannot be CPO'd because they are past the 4 year old mark.

The only other logical option would be an Allroad especially 2.7T or an S4 Avant but the S4 is tiny inside.

The ARs are beautiful but I would need to paint all the plastic, I don't like their interiors that much, and most of all I don't know if I can lower it without spending a lot of money.

Ideally I'd like to have a Turbo engine so the AR is looking better and better...

    I need to know if:

    - I can get rid of the airbags and use regular springs to lower it (not slammed) just the equivalent of the Audi sports suspension.

    - How Wide can I go with the wheels and what offset they have?

    - Any other things I should look for when buying one? I know the engines.
I've owned both 2.7T and 4.2L but everything else is a mystery to me especially the suspension.

Any help from current AR owners and anyone else would be appreciated.

Last, I still love the S6...

    Re: All road or S6?

i've had zero reliability issues with my AR. purchased at 50k with no warranty or anything and currently has 75k. with the right tools, installing coilovers is not difficult. you can purchase a kit which adapts to A6 strut mount bearings. without that you would have to fabricate your own piece i guess. there are also companies who sell after market air ride setups that i'm sure could be installed.

depends what you want out of your allroad. if you plan on using it to do some exploring, then I would recommend leaving the factory suspension. you wont be doing too much off roading with coilovers. personally, I purchasd mine mostly on the fact that the interior is larger than an S4 avant and it was easier to find. also because I love the body lines on the AR. i think its a well put together vehicle.

    Re: All road or S6?

Thanks all, how low can I go with the vag.com?

Thanks for all the tips and great resourcess. Here I am at 11:00 pm just looking at cars.com and comparing things with all this info.

I'm looking for an 05 CPO and wanted a manual tranny, but the one I found has cloth seats (rare) and no Bose audio. I know they are to the very best but I dnn't want to retrofit an audio system.

This baby will ride some trails, but will not rip through them. Mostly it will take me to a trailhead, or back road, and from there I will dismount a bike, skis, or a board from a roof rack and rip...
I also want it to look mean and fast while in town, so a GIAC Chip's got her name on it already. RS4 wheels will probably look good also.

Edit: Do they come with Xenon lights? If not how hard or expensive is it to fit some in?

    Thanks again...

    Alex.

Consensus is to not lower more than 20mm with the VAG -- although beware that the ride quality will suffer. I personally have my AR down 15 front/12 rear, and only drop down to "level 1" when I'm feeling frisky -- otherwise it stays in level 2 most of the time.

The allroad 2.7T is the only option if you want a 6MT wagon in C5 form.

Thanks Bud! Do you have a pic of your AR I can see? Also do you know if I would be able to transfer my ECU flash (from a C5 2.7, 03) to the AR? I have the GIAC X program.

Did you lower yours with a Vag com?

Not sure on the GIAC flash, but probably, so long as you have the manny tranny. GIAC's site should be able to tell you. I did do the lowering using the VAG.

    Here's a couple snaps:
