    Liscence plate light question

Had this bulb out warning come up in the center screen

Before I start taking the car apart, I thought I'd better ask - is changing the bulbs as simple as unscrewing the covers from the trunk lid on either side of the trunk release, or is it more complicated?

    Re: Liscence plate light question

just unscrew the covers from the trunk lid and ur done.

thats if ur lucky and ur screws arent rusted or damaged or stripped. becareful when taking them out because they strip very very easily!

Good to know. Think I'll be stopping on the way home tomorrow for some bulbs, and a philips socket to get the covers off (stupid screwdrivers won't quite work due to the angle )

What size drill bit did you use to get the screw out? I stripped one of mine too. Why that had a gorilla tighten a dang license plate light cover I'll never know.

    Re: Liscence plate light question

I used a screw extractor or something - its a kit that has corkscrew like drill bits that get lodged into the screw. I got lucky, it actually worked. Should be about $10 at local big box hardware store. - its just a PITA because my drill, borrowed another one because it was smaller - those screws are in a tight spot!.

yepp.. i got leds too and i love em! its the little things that make the difference. if you use a regular philip head.. i suggest taking off the license plate first.. it takes like 2 seconds to do and it helps a lot!

    Re: Liscence plate light question

I just went to the stealership and had them order me the lenses - it comes with the screw. I think one of the online audi parts stores has them for significantly cheaper

    Re: Liscence plate light question

    Update:

Managed to get the right side light out and bulb replaced, so at least the warning light isn't there anymore

    However, on the left....

    1st attempt: #1 phillips bit / 1/4 inch socket / 1/4 drive ratchet
    2nd: offset Phillips screwdriver
3rd: minature box wrench / screwdriver bit set

    Then it stripped out

So, I've got to attack it with the screw removal kit, once the cordless drill charges, but not until after I pick up replacement fasteners from the stealership.

    Unless I go LED.....
