How to take off European plate cover???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
the front bumpers on our S4's come with a European cut-out, and since im not running a US front plate on my car, when i removed the American Plate holder i fould 4 holes in there, so instead of taking the car to the body shop i want to take it the cover off and drop it to get sprayed, but it seems that the stupid thing won't come off. Does it have any screws or clips behind the bumper? do i have to remove the lower grille in order to take it off? thanks for any help i can get

p.s. you can see the little anoying holes

those are barely noticeable. on my car (05 S4) i tried to remove the US front plate holder and there are 4 holes the size of quarters! The screws that hold the plate holder screw into the actual bumper beam.

some people use a flat head screw driver and use some type of towel to cover the tip and just pry it off

You know if you asked on Audiworld I would have probably given you a good answer right away since I don't check here often. I wouldn't have known about it if it wasn't linked. Glad to see the people here are giving you good answers </sarcasm>

But the answer your question, you can put a flat blade screw driver in the bottom and pry it off. You can also get a blank filler plate from clairparts.com for about $60 and have it painted first. Then you can swap plates if for some reason you need to put the front plate back on.

use a flat head..then go buy a new one, because some of the clips will probably break off..i did that with my old B6...

Re: How to take off European plate cover???

When I got my car it had the bumper cover where you can't put a front plate. I have driven a couple cars with no front plate and let dealer keep it that way. Now getting worried, since I put my Tubi on every cop is checking me out as I go by and figure it's only a matter of time before I get bagged. Does anyone know if this is a part I can order and do myself or do I go back to dealer? TIA

You can always buy some plastic hole plugs that match the color of your bumper.
