Boost Factory Bad Ass Mo' F'in Side Mount Inter Cooler For The Win

I borrowed the words from a certain moderator (over on the TEX) , but I think its a fitting description

so, I picked up this sidemount from Killa last night (his car is real fast btw)
and went to put it on first thing this morning

    pics off the car:

the install was a breeze, this deffinatly is the civilized way to mount an intercooler to our cars, it just popped in place. its really big, but it just filled the inner fender void perfect, it even lined right up with my S4 fender liner vent

in another thread I saw some people pointing out that it doesn't have mounting tabs, I can tell you for sure, it doesn't need any it mount solidly and securly as its just the exact shape of the space in the fender, I can't imaging how long it took to get the shaping of the end takns just right

the only thing that I trimmed in the install was the shroud, its probably not needed as any air comming in the bumper is forced over the intercooler as it has no where else to go, but I figgured it was worth my time to make it fit

since the original mounting points were trimmed off I screwed it to the rad support with 2 sheet metal screws

    and with the bumper fitted:

I'm real happy cause its 100% real world friendly, the bumper comes on and off just as easy as stock, the intercooler doesn't sit any lower than stock so I have no fear of rough roads or bad driveways and you can't even tell I have it :D

oh yeah, and the car feels a bit faster with it on (buttdyno FTW)

(sorry for the blatent fortitude repost)

noticible difference? like $550 worth of a difference?

I like the support of up to 491CFM w/ ~1psi drop.

k03 now, k04 pc16 in the future hopefully, the intercooler can support a much larger turbo but I'm imposing a limit on myself for only KKK turbos

mine did cause I got mine used, but if you buy it new it comes with just the intercooler, I'd use a set of zena racing hoses if it didn't already come with them (stockers fit too though)

idk about 400HP, but I think it would work well up to an aggressive Ko4 setup.

Yeah I agree, I don't think this would fare well with a GT28 size turbo. It would heat soak real quick.

the guys at boost factory seem to think it is and thats good enough for me, I will probably never see that big of a turbo on this car anyway seeing as its my daily and mpg is the biggest deciding factors in modding it, that and its FWD too

You'll get better mileage out of a larger turbo than a smaller one. The air travels through the engine with less resistance which yields higher efficiency.

I'm sure having a lighter wallet would help too, aside frrom the efficency argument I simply cannot afford a big turbo

Re: Boost Factory Bad Ass Mo' F'in Side Mount Inter Cooler For The Win

    600 mile update:

average MPG decrease : negligable (this is very important to me) I still get well over 30mpg on the highway

    things I've noticed:

its really hard to stay in vac under partial throttle now, personaly whne on the highway I try to stay in the highest vac possible for economy, however due to what I can only assume is a much better flow effiecy my intake mainifold will almost instantly go to atomospheric pressue or beyond with the slightest pressure on my right foot

I have a hard time knowing for sure (I don't have an outside air temp sensor readout :banghead: ) but it looks like intake air temps stay within about 20 deg F from aimbient

I do however have real time in car intake air temp display and I can tell you that the intake air temps stay very consistant even under hard driving

one neat thing that I did notice is as soon as the manifold hits atmospheric pressure or higher I seen a instant 4 to 6 deg F reduction in intake air temps

I found myself flooring it in 5th a bunch tonight seeing just how much the air temps would drop

just after the throttle is lifted the air temps return to their orginal state, no higher

    I'm pretty impressed so far
