Question Offsets and Staggered LOOK A LIKE

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
im pretty sure this is a dumb question. but basically I was really interested in a set of wheels. unfortunatly they don't come in a staggered setup, only 19x8.5 (but of course they make a 9.5 width for the bmw owners.) they do come in a +35 and +45 offsets in the 8.5 width tho. my qusetions are..

    1. Could I pull off a staggered LOOK with the +45 in the front and the +35 in the rear and some spacers?

    2. Would I need different tire sizes.

thanks in advanced to everyone. I get a lot of great and helpfull information from the people in these forums and never got a chance to say thanks.

the rims are BBS LM replicas. I have a feeling that im gonna get bashed for this but honestly I can't see myself spending 4K+ on rims right now but I wouldn't mind a set a wheels to hold me over till I finish paying off the car. Im into collection shoes and always bash people for wearing fake jordans. but I don't plan on rockin the bbs centercaps. maybe some audi ones.

Instead of checking for Audi fitments, check to see if they have Mercedes fitments available. Chances are, that will open you up to several more size/offset options. All you need to make Mercedes wheels fit is hubcentric rings (about $20).

Re: Offsets and Staggered LOOK A LIKE

A staggered look would mean a deep dish rear wheel in the same wheel size (this case 19x8.5) with the adjusted offset.

Having two wheels that look the same with different offsets don't accomplish anything.

I guess im a little confused about offsets. I thought that the lower number offset would produce a larger lip?

Re: Offsets and Staggered LOOK A LIKE

A lower offset can result in a larger lip. Depends on the design of the wheel though. It WILL however, push the wheel out more though, so it's comparable to having spacers.

So, an et45 with a 10mm spacer will give you a final offset of 35mm. So you can do that, or you can just get a wheel with a 35mm offset.

    ^ That's the key point.

Just because a wheel comes in 2 different offsets, doesn't mean the lips are any different in size.

All the BBS LM reps I've seen have the exact same lip size. Different offsets are simply for fitment on different cars.

oh alright I see what's going on. I guess these reps are not what im looking for. when it comes the wheels I see your gonna have to spend some money to get what you want. and I want a staggered setup and im really liking the step lip look...

All very true. Also overall wheel width along with design has a lot to do with the lip size. I have 19x8 ET32 fronts with a 1in lip and 19x9.5 ET35 rears with about an 1.75in lip. The rears, with the offset and width the lip is right at the edge of the fender, with no rubbing. It looks really good. I will have to get some pics up soon to show you.

you can see the depth difference between the front and rear wheels.

Here is the best currently available shot I have where you can see how the rim sits.

Not a good shot, but you can sort of see the difference between the front and rear wheels sitting still.
