H&R Coilovers vs. H&R Cup Suspension Kit

What is the difference? Is the only difference that coilovers allow you to adjust the ride height?

Correct--the damper bodies (and in your case the rear spring perches) are threaded so you can raise/lower the ride height.

I would HIGHLY recommend STaSIS' StreetSport coilovers over either of the H&R products however---much better ride/handling.

STaSIS StreetSport coilover kit for B6/B7 A4 Quattro/CVT(FWD); 4 KONI sport dampers; single adjustable (rebound), narrow band; suspension disassembly required for rebound adjustment; silver chromate plated threaded steel damper bodies; height adjustable; 4 progressive rate KONI springs (450/440 spring rate); balanced and adjusted on SPA damper dynamometer

Thanks Jeremy ... it was more of a general question about coilovers vs. suspension kit. I don't really see myself adjusting them at all and, if I am not going to adjust them, then it is hard for me to justify doubling the price.

Besides adjustability, are there any other benefits to coilovers? (assuming that you purchase a quality suspension kit)

    You're very welcome.

While you're right that most don't adjust ride height after they initially set it where they want it, but, the biggest benefit we see to coilovers for a majority of street clientele is the fact that they ARE ride height adjustable.

If you install sport damper/lowering springs and the car lowers 1" in front and 1.2" in rear and you don't like the look or if the car rubs, you're stuck with that static height---you have no way to change it. With coilovers, at least you have some flexibility in being able to change ride height if you want (handy for just a few hundred $$ more than dampers/springs). Some coilovers go beyond that allowing you to change damping characteristics (rebound and/or compression, sometimes high speed compression).

LMK if you have any other questions.

We love them and so do our clients. For the money they're hard to beat.

    Two testimonials for you;

    "Good afternoon Marc,

I was asked by Matrix Integrated to contact you and provide feedback on the STaSIS Street Sport coilovers I recently had installed on my 99.5 A4.

Prior to having this suspension setup, I used to run H&R ultras which were cool if you wanted to slam your car lower than any other suspension. However, the H&R coilovers provided a very stiff ride w/o dampening adjustability. Regardless, the H&Rs went bad and it was time to replace them. After attending a Matrix Tech Day, and numerous conversations with Jeremy, I decided to go with the STaSIS setup. I have had the suspension for a month now, and am VERY HAPPY with it. The following are just a few reasons I am so satisfied with this product:

1.) Ride comfort very close to OEM
2.) Unbelievable handling - I don't take my car to the track, but have heard many people running this suspension setup on the track with great results.
    3.) Provides dampening adjustability
    4.) Provides ride height adjustability
    5.) Great price

    Best regards,
    Dima"

"The suspension is incredible at maximizing the car's performance, WITHOUT sacrificing ride quality. The STaSIS suspension has enabled me to push my car to the limits, while keeping an OEM like ride. While very reasonably priced in contrast to many competing products, this is a great investment for someone who likes an occasional track day. I highly recommend this suspension setup for everyone...however, am worried that it will be harder to outpace others if they are running the same STaSIS suspension. I guess I'll just have to work on my driving abilities!"

I was hoping that STaSIS had these coilovers available for my A6 C5 Avant. But there website doesn't even have a category for an A6 with any 3.0 for anything. Bummer.

All STaSIS has offered for the C5 are their Motorsport/Ohlins at ~$3800.

I'd recommend Bilstein's PSS9's(9 way adj); ~$1650. We're waiting on an ETA from Bilstein Germany for more to arrive in the states.
