    bulb out warning

Has anyone installed HID kits in their fog light housing? I put in some 3000k kit but now am getting bulb out warnings. The HID kits are 35 watt while the regular halogens are 55 watt. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a resistor to add in to increase the load? Thank you.

i am not positive but i think you have to do a vagcom mod to make it disappear

    Re: bulb out warning

i did read about someone vag'ing the car for DTM (where no fog lights are installed from the factory). Does that disable the circuit too? Does anyone have other suggestions?

I don't know of any way to recode for HID fogs.

The best way to do this is to get a 50W hid 'kit'...

You could make it work by adding a resistor, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I was actually just reading about your LED city light mod. Isn't this similar to what you are doing there?

Sort of....but there's more to making the LED citylight work properly than just adding a resistor to trick the computer.

In your case it is that simple...but 20W is a lot of power (heat) to drop across a resistor.

    Re: bulb out warning

i'm thinking about getting the "load resistor kit" found on the bottom of this page

I did the calculation. halogen 55 watt on the car have a resistance of 2.6 to 3.7 ohms, while the 35 watt hid kid have somewhere between 4 and 5.9 ohms. adding the 6 ohm resistor in parallel drops the resistance to between the halogen bulb's resistance. The resistor with it's heatsink is rated for 50 watt. As long as I mount it away from plastic, I should be okay.

    What do you think?

You're on the right track with the 50W rated resistor, but the value you calculated isn't correct.

A 6ohm resistor will dissipate ~30W @ 13.5V...which is more than you need it to.

^^^Not sure what these are, but it sounds like a better option than using a resistor.
