What happens if I run w/o TPMS sensors in my 08

Assuming I buy new Audi or after market wheels w/o TPMS, will it just show a warning light or make noise when driving? 2008 A4.

that's disappointing that they don't know. I guess you could always take a wheel of the car and start it up (with the wheel more than 10 feet away) and see what happens.........

I spoke to a customer yesterday and they advised me that CA started a law this year that it is illegal for new vehicles not to have TPMS if it is already equipped with it.

CA tries to make breathing air illegal these days. No cop, or anyone will ever know if the vehicle is equipped with TPMS'. This is comming from a tech at a GM dealership, most of our vehicle line has TPMS, and alot of people who run aftermarket, just either deal with the light, or are forced to put sensors in them. In our car, for 08 Audi's, you can go through the DIC, click "tyre pressures", and select "change tyre positions", once you do that, the light will disappear for about an hour if your driving that long, then come back on. But if you start the car, the light will not be on untill the computer scans for pressure readings. Thats all. No big deal. I, myself, am not running TPMS' in my wheels. Just be sure to check your pressure's once a month.

According to service advisor at Riverside Audi, who confirmed with his tech, Audi has a fix in progress that will disable TPMS if you purchase a winter tire and wheel package from dealer.

Re: What happens if I run w/o TPMS sensors in my 08

My boyfriend being a tire expert and used to deal with it day in and day out, said if you take out and remove the TPM from the wheel, the vehicles light will come on. If audi has a buzzer for it, I'm not 100% sure but def. will trigger the light to come on.

Audi should have a way to disable it, but if someone buys winter wheel/tire packages from the dealer that they should put new sensors in the tire so you have proper working TPMS.

Its a nice feature to have, and most of us without it, wishes I had it. Its good for long trips and piece of mind.

There can be some cases when you get a malfuntion and fixing can be slightly annoying/frustrating,b ut overall its an awsome technology.

I want to be the firs to invent a universal TPMS system for prior cars that weren't equipped with it, and become stupid rich so I can buy everyone on here an R8 :-D

Re: What happens if I run w/o TPMS sensors in my 08

I went to the Audi side of my dealer and asked them. They stated it can't be turned off because of a US regulation and yada yada yada. Basically bullshitted me about them and saying they won't turn it off nor will they look into how to turn them off. Basically all i've done, but im running no TPMS' is to just deal with it. Its just a light thats on the dash and i pay no attention to it. My fix to make sure my tires don't lose air over time is add Nitrogen fill up. I haven't lost tire pressure in the 3 months that i've had my 19's on at all. It's not going to beep or anything like that, its just a light that comes on and only beeps once when you turn the car on and put it in D or R. No big deal everyone.
