The cheapest possible way is to spend $0 and leave everything the way it is.
The car already comes with an intake.

Re: Cheap way to make intake?

Just take your whole intake out and then home depot/honey comb your turbo inlet.

    JOKING..

To answer ur question, get a cone filter and just slap in on the turbo inlet hose. But this is an all sound mod...

Re: Cheap way to make intake?

Buy a new paper filter and leave the airbox in place. The stock intake flows good enough to about 400HP. I concur with the above, buy a good TIP. Or save your money and go BT/BAT.

Re: Cheap way to make intake?

if you just wanna hear what it sounds like, go to autozone, buy a cone filter, take off the factory airbox and put the cone filter on u'r mass air sensor...it's def not a power adder, but if sound is all you want, give that a shot!!

Re: Cheap way to make intake?

Pick up a heatshield w/ a cone filter and you should be fine. I got mine from Matt and it works like a charm. Total cost for me was $130. No noticeable performance gain but you will definitely get the sound you want.

Re: Cheap way to make intake?

i took the heat shield off of my factory airbox, kidna afroengineered a brace for it with zip ties and an old school metal coat hanger. it doesnt 100% stop heat, but it will make a little difference. i can open my hood after running it and the filter is cold to the touch and on the other side of the heat shield, it's hott. not that big a difference, but enough to be worth being free... check out my vid and u'll see what i mean.. i think there's pics at the end..

Re: Cheap way to make intake?

So i took my airbox out in like 10min and put a new done filter on using a coupler to make fit. Ok I also bought the little tiny air filter that goes onto that vertical Plastic pipe that also connected into the airbox. BUT what did you guys use to made that filer fit in there, and i know its a noob question but what is that pipe for?

Re: Cheap way to make intake?

that is for u'r secondary injection pump.. it helps ur car run better when it's cold out...i bought the small filter for that hose, but i had to actually cut the hose off right before it makes the 90 degree bend. pulled the rubber part off the new tiny filter, then stuck it down in the hose and black taped it up... def not the professional way to do it, but it works and my car isnt a show car so i'm not worried. if you go to ebay you can get a piece that will adapt that hose to accept a normal small filter...

Re: Cheap way to make intake?

See the thing is that the filer goes into the plastic tube easily. like the hose on the filter is smaller and not big enough to even fit snug. I would use a ring to tighten it but as you know the tube is plastic and cant tighten that down around the filer. For now i have kinda like a bigger lube squeezed into the plastic tube and the Filer squeezed into the the other end haha. Just seeing if there was something else out there that was a better fit.

Re: Cheap way to make intake?

before i got the small filter to fit, i ran for about 3 days with a CLEAN sock on it. the filter i used from autozone was http://www.autozone.com/R,NONAPP3251...ductDetail.htm it doesnt have the rubber neck on it, it's meant for a 1" hose to go over it. it's actually a breather filter but was only like 10 bux at my autozone.
