    More cops on the roads?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Is it me or are there more highway patrol officers on the roads. I was heading to NYC this morning around 10:00 AM (440N to the Verrazano) and my radar detector starts chirping... Of course there is a NJ trooper tucked into a corner and he tags the guy to the left of me... Next I am on SI expressway more NYPD high cops tucked away. I was also on the Southern State more NYS troopers... What gives? Does anyone have trooper friends or family members? Is there some sort of crack down in the tri-state area?

i live in staten island. the high way patrol is always there in the am and pm rush hours. they pull over mostly if you are speeding. for the most part the cops on staten island are dicks. i just try to go with the traffic in staten island. getting my k40 installed soon. stealth install so they will never find it. v1 is prob your best bet with the assholes.

Nope V1 is not ur best bet. Unlike in NJ on the Parkway and Turnpike where they play more fair, pigs here on SI are dirty bastards. They use laser when ever possible. ON the Korean Parkway where the road is perfectly straight and u crest the gentle hill going towards the Outer Bridge at night a pig will sit there running laser, especially during the summer almost every night he's there. THe speed limit is unrealistacally low at 50mph on a straight stretch of controled access highway that goes downhill. The lights are all broken over there so if they just face sideways at the bottom of the hill and tuck in at the base of the sign for the Maguire ave exit you CAN NOT see them at night. Hell today in broad daylight goin 2 work they were there. I stuck my hand out the window wavin for everyone behind me 2 slow down, and the cop gave me a real pissed look when I went past. They hide up the all the entrance ramps on the West shore so you can't see them no matter what and stick their laser gun out the window, when a car looks to be goin fast enough they pull the trigger. YOu will never know even with the V-1 or any detector until you get popped. They also hide in the weeds, down the embankment along the West shore. Becareful, they've been running laser on Hylan blvd 2. Pig sits hidden in front of Rab's lanes and shoots laser at traffic goin towards Tottenville. Pulls and writes for 5mph over, even though traffic safely does 50. Hylan blvd by Mt. Loretto is another place they like to sit. I watched an Impala, actaully reverse into the heavy brush along Hylan by Heugonaut ave and for several seconds go foward and back to bust a hole in the brush and finally get so tucked in you couldn't see the pig from the road and sit there running laser. These cops are real deusces,2nd only to Virginia.

Come on guys all the name calling is NOT necessary. I'm actually gonna be a cop in the future (probably like in a year or so) and They are just doing their job. Yea they can be a$$h0les sometimes and give you a ticket for no damn reason but hey for the most part, if you don't break the law they won't bother you.

I hear what you are saying rayiish and honestly I have no problems with cops... Thankfully I have never been to jail. I just don't like getting speeding tickets...

I simply asked the question if there is a crack down on speeding in the tri-state area... Do you have any input? Perhaps when you become a cop you can send me a few PBA cards lol.... Best of luck to you

I just got 3 tickets in Staten Island by these Deusce Bags 15 minutes ago. The reason he gave for pulling me over was bogus, and he just searched my car over for anything he could find.

no problem with them, just dont know why they are worried about speeding..why not real crimes.

down in florida, if your not going 80 in a 65, the cops are passing you. uo here in NY everyone drives slow, and there are cops backed in the woods like stalking people.

Thanks Sweed, I figured it had to be something along those lines. These cops are just popping up out of thin air. I thought my look was relatively stealthy (white car) but these cops seem to be in tune with our cars and the potential due to modding. I think it's going to be a rough summer. Don't say I didn't warn you guys lol...

they can't search you or your vehicle for no reason unless they have probable cause but yea just show respect to the cop and most of the time they wont be too much of an asshole to you

Quick Tip if you get pulled over.
Turn off the vehicle, throw your keys on the dashboard, open your interior reading light, roll down your windows, and have both hands on the steering wheel with your license and registration ready for the cop.

Traffic stops is the leading cause of death for cops. If they know youre not a threat and that you respect them, they usually let you off with a warning

Re: More cops on the roads?

The problem is two-fold. #1 every town and the state have quotas for each patrolman to fill, so it looks like they are working. I know several cops who just smile, and nod their heads when you mention quotas. If they are not writing someone up, their bosses figure they are eating donuts or sleeping somewhere.
#2 With all the budget shortages, the state, and towns NEED MONEY. Traffic court is like Let's Make a Deal in NJ. Pay a large fine ($250 or more), and they will reduce points, and let you go. It's all about the money. There are certain towns here where you cannot drive through at any time of the day and NOT see someone getting written up. If you want to drive fast,go to the track at Englishtown, or Pocono or Lime Rock for a HPDE day. Aside from that, if you speed, you will get caught at some point. It's a given. I got a speeding ticket in my son's A4 3.0l ( the car is too quiet, I didn't realize I was speeding), but I've been lucky in my 03 VETTE ( HUD display helps you see your speed all the time). Most of us on Corvetteforum go to the track for HPDE days, or to Englishtown for the Corvette Challenge.
