    BMW 335i freeway?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was just curious how close of a race would it be between a B7 S4 and a BMW 335i on the freeway. Say 70 - 120+ mph I know the 335i is a little quicker quarter mile time.

On a race course with professional drivers, the 335i is slightly quicker (by like a hundreth of a second) than an S5..Not sure how that relates to you though. LOL

335i would probably walk away because of less drive train loss.

    Re: BMW 335i freeway?

Reason I asked because I just fooled around with my friend who has a 08 335i and he kind of walked me a little on the freeway which I was a bit surprised. So was he. This went on for a couple of times. Dam
Didn't hear the end of it. The 335i is faster than I thought.

    Re: BMW 335i freeway?

Stock 335 vs Stock S4 6spd...close race...if the S4 gets a jump good chance you'll hold off the the stock car by 1/2 length to the top of 5th.
Chipped 335...forget it...it'll walk away by 4 or 5 lengths.

Did notice the 335 has a dead spot at the top of 4th gear WOT (really noticeable on the stock car...not so much on the chipped). Seems the little turbo's run out of air deep into 4th and 5th gear.

Down low the 335 (stock) and (chipped) pulls very hard (no lag and great gearing in 2nd and 3rd gear WOT)

A chipped and fullback S4 should walk a stock 335. Again chipped 335's are fast so no contest there.

Both cars are stock. I hate to see it chipped. He was talking about putting on the Vishnu PROcede v2 Computer. Told him we'll race again when it's wet.

I just don't get why people always bring up, "well if it was wet, then different story." thats like a guy with a hummer saying, "if we were on a mud course, then different story." the 335i wasn't made for wet/slippery streets. Get a 335xi with procede, and you can watch the car get smaller and smaller, cause its goin bye bye.

    Re: BMW 335i freeway?

Anything can happen in a street race.. take this for example:

B6/B7 S4 and E90 335i race and the S4 won.. granted the s4 had the slight initial jump each time.

I said Let's race again when it's wet to my friend in a joking way just to make myself feel a little better. We both new what the bottom line was. How often are you going to race when it is wet? Especially around a track. It was a joke.

    Re: BMW 335i freeway?

I would think I would be able to pull from him past 100+ but we were fooling around from 70 till about 100. Wasn't sure if I could start to catch him after 100. Would the B7 S4 have an advantage over the 335i on the upper end, say 110 plus? Just curious. Thanks

    Funny,

I had a similar experience two days ago if anyone is interested in reading it.

I was surprised by the outcome.

E90 335i = Curtis Martin. Underrated... understated... smooth. Above average speed and agility.

B6/B7 S4 = Fred Taylor. Not the fastest, or most agile, but highly effective. An every down back with the talent to start in any backfield.

I guess the B7 S4 and the 335i are a close race on the freeway. Sounds like whoever gets the jump has a slight advantage. I would like to see a race up to 140+ mph Autobahn style.

    Re: BMW 335i freeway?

This is my experience with a 335i = Mods of his were a chip (not sure which one) and exhaust. Mine are in my sig.

From a dig did about 3 runs - I had him up until about 80 then he would pull ahead by about a car length - everytime (which is when we slowed down as the place we ran was rather short)

We did highway runs as well from about 60 - whatever. On the highway it was dead even which I was shocked since he was chipped. Very weird...

    Just thought I would share

    Re: BMW 335i freeway?

I think we need a rematch. This time I'm going to get the jump. The first time he did get the jump but didn't think it would matter that much. Guess I was wrong. The worse thing is that I currently work for BMW MINI dealership. Friends tease me about it. Not going to lie, did think about getting a 335i because of the discount and would be cheaper for me with the maintenance in the long run. Especially after this incident but love the S4 too much. I believe overall it is a lot better car. Can't beat the fit and finish.
P.S. I have to admit the new M3 is sick though. Can't wait for the new B8 S4 & RS4 to come out. Hopefully they will be able to match or even better the BMW performance numbers every which way.
