    Pillar Boost gauge...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey would any one here by interested in a pillar boost gauge? 1, 2, and 3 pod pillars?

I do a lot of custom fiberglass fabrication and decided to make one myself, it looks great and it wouldn't cost me a lot to mass produce these. Looks similar to the pillar on a4 mods.

    http://www.a4mods.com/index.php?page...ages/pod2.html

I could make it as a 1-3 pod pillars. If i did it, I think i would charge 50+shipping for a single 65 for a double and 90 for a triple. Any of you think you would be interested???

the main concern is the air bag.
if the pod is low enough it shouldnt be a problem i have one out of a mk4 im going to mod to fit.

    Re: Pillar Boost gauge...

I would definitely be interested. I never really liked the podi since it obstructed the view of the speedometer and everything, and the awe gauge is experience and out of eyeline. This is something Ive been looking for (under 100 bucks, A-Pillar). All the other non-custom pillar gauges are cheap and look like crap

You wont be saying f*ck the air bag when the gauge is in your face. some people are so dumb. i respond to accidents where stuff in the car ends up being the reason for fatality. you can die from a tissue box hitting you in the back of the head if you get into a head on at 60. sounds dumb but its true. i'd rather be hit with an airbag then a boost gauge.

actually no you cant, myth busters proved the tissie box was a myth.

furthermore I am attempting to build the pods attached to the pillar itself so it wont fly off.

i like the pillar as long as it is safe and it looks oem. i think the perfect podi would be one that used a smaller sized boost gauge.

are you serious? that is possibly the most common gauge used on this forum. But its 300 bucks when its said and done and is not even in your line of sight. I would like a 50 dollar a-pillar one since i am poor and that way i can see the boost as i watch the road =]

I agree 100%. Thats the only thing Id be conserned about. If it wouldn't affect that Id probally go for one. Does anybody know for sure if it would or wouldn't? What I really want though is an awe but on the vent to the left of the steering wheel... if anyone could make one of those Id for sure buy it.

If you get in an accident the last thing your going to be worrying about is a gauge in your face. And when an Airbag or a Seatbelt is sometimes the reason of a fatality in an auto accident, your doomed to begin with.

Make a pillar pod and I'll be your huckleberry.

are you thinking about making the pod for different size gauges? are you going to sell kits or just the pod?

    Re: Pillar Boost gauge...

From doing all kinds of research before I fabricated my own a-pillar pod, I actually saw pics of blown bags on a B6. As long as you stay below about 3/4 of the way down, the pillar stays intact.
Which means, one gauge is about all you can do without getting a gauge to the face.
It needs to be almost down right at the bottom left corner of the windshield. And you can't try and fiberglass mold it in to the pillar up beyond that because of the way the pillar is designed to blow when the bags deploy.

So, good and bad.... don't believe anyone who tells you the gauge will become a projectile. The bad is that you can really only say this about one gauge, and it has to be low. If you try to rice out and have gauges the whole way up the pillar, you deserve to have one knock some sense in to you anyhow.

I love mine. Sits up higher and in better sight line than podi or AWE. But tucked out of the way and unobtrusive.

people wake up that airbag is a curtain that protects you from the glass or other debris in a side impact...the airbag in the seat is the one that protects from impact...it deploys down and not sideways

Initially I would say Hell yes. But considering California is what it is, NaziFornia, I'll have to pass.

In a state where I get pulled over for DWB, Driving While Bald, i can't imagine having 3 gauge pods on the A Pillar. Those gauges give cops extra reason to stop you, take a look inside your car, give you attitude, and write you a bogus ticket.

Unless you are an analog only type of guy too.
that depends. really i like both lol. boost gauge i'm more of an analog kinda guy... something about being able to HOW the needle moves as opposed to just where it's at.

air fuel though - i like the AEM setup with the sweeping LED and digital readout. if you could make me a colum pod or something of the sort that would fit the gauges ive got (or that i could trim to make them fit) i'd be all over it. the AFR gauge is really hte only one i'm looking to move anyways
