VAST Performance TIP CHIP!!! Lovin' it!

    Hey guys
a while back I got the tip chip from VAST, and went for their stage 3. I had issues and went into limp mode within a few miles. Called them, they were great, they sent their stage2 which I had the next day and installed it right away (20-30 min job).
During the test run, we had some acceleration issues (which I had posted about), kinda like surging in different gears and different RPMs. I talked to Prince and Kurt at VAST over the following few days and again they were great, awesome customer service. This all time we're assuming the issue is due to the tip chip somehow... I had checked for leak arounf the Bipipe, TB, intake and checked the DVs... could not see anything. had no CEL and no code. Car was runnign real bad and slow!
Anyway, I took my car to the shop (GMP) for a couple of things and had them look at it... My guy quickly found the issue, a popped off lower intercooler hose.
I also had the new APR software version flashed...
So now that is fixed and I can actually feel the power and the added benefit of the tip chip. It works real well in stage 2. It is like the car has more torque, but it is really the tranny making th emost out of the power that was there with the mods.... The car feels like it is putting more power down, also shifts faster. Also the car is stronger from standstill.

    I cannot wait for stage3...

Some notes about the tip chip...
"The trans has internal limmits to the Tq. We remove this thus most of our customers say they feel there car makes more power after the chip install.
The V8 guys feel this more because the car makes more Tq but when you have a 2.7 car and you have a performance chip installed (ECU) not all of the power makes it to the wheels. SOME times the trans will allow more Tq than other times thus some times you might feel like the car is faster when say you dowm shift to pass someone. The Tq limit is bypassed in some situations. WE and ONLY we control this and remove it while still leaving the car the option of limp mode if you make too much power. Case in point we have a RS6 turbo A6 2.7T car that makes too much power for the trans computer so I am reworking it.

Bottom line is this stage 3 is a hole nother world. you have alot to look forward to"

Bottom line, VAST has great customer service...
The tip chip in stage 2 works wonders and actually their stage3 works well o other A6s. They only had encruption issues for 03+ models like mine but they woked those out last week and they shipped my new Stag3 already... so when I return from the beach, i will install it and post about it.
But I have exchanged many emails and phone calls with both Prince and Kurt over the past 2 weeks. They both have been awesome!
    More to come
    Have a great day, Brice

i heard that they are hard on the tranny which in turns causes the tranny to not last as long...is this true? have you talked to the guys at VAST about? Ive always wanted to get it but was afraid of what it would do to my transmission...thanks

Re: VAST Performance TIP CHIP!!! Lovin' it!

I didn't know that Vast made a TIP chip chip for the 2003>. I figured since AWE only has a Tip chip for 2002< , no one did.

Do they have more info on thier site, I didn't see it?

No vast's site just says software. If you are interested email [email protected], Prince is a great guy and if you have been around awhile everyone speaks highly of him. He will let you know about what they have and don't have specifically!

Re: VAST Performance TIP CHIP!!! Lovin' it!

Sorry guys. Price is in the mid 300s.
They have 3 stages. I currently have stage 2 on and love it. Got stage 3 file for testing today in the mail. Will try to install this week and post feedback.
It shifts smoothly and does not feel harsher onthe tranny. Also I don't drive harder than before and don't always drive it like a maniac pushing each gear to the max...

Yes they do make it for the 4.2 and some of Audiforums have it on their 4.2. One actually posted a video.

Gigi, where is the TCU? Is it in the same box as the ECU?

Re: VAST Performance TIP CHIP!!! Lovin' it!

No it is in a box located under the carpet where the passenger feet would be, closer to the door seal.
To get to it, you have to remove the vertical trim in the passemger foot well, next to the door hinges (easy, just screws/clips), then pull the lower trim up along the door seal., then pull the carpet up to get to the black plastic box. Open it is and here is the TCU metal box. The clips holding the metal cover of the TCU break easily after repeated removal. Broke one already... may ahve to use tape next time if more break :)
