Is this normal for a Tiptronic?

My Avant's transmission does a weird thing in 2nd and 3rd gear. More so in 3rd. If I am in Tip mode and in 3rd when I slow down to say go around a street corner if the revs drop below 2000 rpm, when I step back into it the revs go to about 3000 rpm or so then about a second later they drop to around 2200 rpm. Is this the torque converter locking up? It really is annoying.

If the car is in drive or sport mode it is fine, but I prefer to drive it in Tip mode. Anyone else experience something like this and is this going to be expensive?

Yes, sounds like it's the TC. If you have a vagcom, check the Ross-Tech Wiki where it talks about 'new' vs. 'old' tip strategy. Could be you can recode it to be more to your liking.

Here's the linky-link. But it's not as helpful as I remembered. Try this instead.
