My run in with an Evo***Round 2***see last post

Well I have not yet been to a dyno with my new set-up but I have a friend with an Evo that has consistently put down 290 to the wheel I figured he would be a good test. Well after 5 runs the outcome is the same, I pulled on him pretty hard every time especially up top. So figure with my car being alot heavier than his I'm going to venture a guess and say I have crossed the 300 mark on pump gas. I hope to have this confirmed by the dyno soon. I'm trying to get in this week.

argh. Reading all this makes me want my engine finished and swapped so we can retune and contribute to the dyno numbers here.

Unfortunately that won't happen 'till late June at the earliest.

The sad thing is that's probably true. If I had put the same amount of money into a evo as I have into my car, I have no doubt I'd have over 600hp to the wheel.

That arguement can go on forever, theres always something faster and someone can always build something faster. Those comments are completely irrelevant though, your car is what it is, and his Evo is what it is. You still won, plain and simple!

Why not? Its going to be a 2700lb 600-700whp car when its done, whats not to understand about the reasoning? The 1J and 2J are two of the best tuning motors available, we never received the 1JZ here in the US, it was available only in the earlier model Supra's and another car called the Toyota Soarer (looks almost identical to our Lexus SC300) in Japan. It came as a twin turbo and shares the same head as the 2JZ, just a 2.5l rather than the 2J's 3.0l. Also we can sneak the car into any European shows as it will appear to be a plain old E30 BMW

They are completely different cars however still on the same platform, the panels are different as the Evo has larger bulging fenders. The two cars are in a completely different league and were designed with two completely different aspects in mind. For an A4 to keep up with or beat one is great IMO. The money put in makes no difference, if you want to argue that same money put into an Evo, then take that same money and put it into a Supra, or a new 6.0l C6 Vette, the Evo would get spanked by either of those!

sorry to continue the thread jack... for the the sake of weight savings, did you consider going 3s-gte... all the potential is still there, and iirc, when top secret did their 400km/hr supra, they used the 3s-gte over the 2jz or 1uz simply to save weight...that speaks volumes right there...

and at 2700lbs, anything over 400hp is going to be a b*tch to put to the ground without some huge meats out back...

    ...just a thought

No, the 1J is what my buddy wanted, and was/is much cheaper. The whole project is costing less than 10k including the car! Budget was very much a decision maker! The car will be DD on low power, probably in the 400 wheel range but will be on drag radials 100% of the time, while traction will be a concern, it will be somewhat controllable, as controllable as that much power can be

They are completely different cars however still on the same platform. the panels are different as the Evo has larger bulging fenders. The two cars are in a completely different league and were designed with two completely different aspects in mind.
correct, the unibody is reinforced in several places over the lancer, then from there, everything else changes...all body panels are different (again, i think the door skins are the same), all control arms are aluminum, drivetrain (obviously), lightweight glass, aluminum roof, steering rack, interior...blah, blah... virtually none of the parts are interchangable between the two cars.

and an RS4 is an A4 with a v8 and recaro seats...like the neon...

Actually no, on the street, a correctly modded evo will walk those 'dyno queens' all day, they just can't put down all that power. The evo responds so well to modification, and can consistanly put that power to the ground. The track is a bit of an equalizer, but those 800hp cars still have trouble chasing after a 1.5-1.6 60ft

I really don't feel like starting this argument, so I'll stop here and get back on topic... I'm getting defensive since I had one back in 04, and 11sec timeslips to go along with it. Aside from maybe the skyline, the evo is the king of the street...

To get back on topic, I agree!! A car as heavy as the A4 shouldn't be able to keep up, mad props on that...
