    has anybody had this problem before?...i need new EGT and front 02s...been clearing the codes for sometime...but it just started doing this recently...at first i thought it was my battery or alternator but they both checkd out good and so is the starter itself...so my main question is...are these problems directly related to either EGT or 02 sensor? or do i have a different problem ?(knock on wood)

    Definitely not related to a bad EGT or O2 sensor.

    I would also suggest replacing the ignition switch. It's like $20. Takes 10 minutes and is worth a try.

    Ignition switch is the thing the key goes in. Seems like a good place to start based on what you know.

    There are 2 parts to it, the electrical portion and the lock cylinder portion.
    You need to remove the steering wheel. Remove the trim surrounding the steering column. And then you should see the ignition switch. Scrape off the red paint from the two screws holding the electrical part in place, disconnect the connector, and replace the switch.

    My bet is on the ignition switch as Jerbal said. Seams easy to replace. or even just loose connections with the switch, especially if you are able to flick the switch a couple of times to get it to work.

    Your pixels in your center speedometer look great. Mine only miss a few sometimes but come back after driving for a time, but yours looks perfect!!!

    yeah replace the ignition switch , its pretty easy to do . also that checksum error is not a good one.usually its the control module its stored in taking a shit.i would replace that ignition switch(the electric part) as soon as possible you dont want the flickering of the voltage to be hitting the ecu like that

    Re: weird startup...watch video...need insight...just pulled new codes*

    I searched the p1603 code in my Bentley and one of the results was:

    Readiness code, generating
    Requirements
    -The respective fuses of the Motronic fuel injection and ignition system must be OK: Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component Locations
    -Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 volts.
    -All electrical consumers like, for example, lights and rear window heating must be switched off.
    -If vehicle is equipped with an A/C system, it must be switched off.
    -Ground (GND) connections between engine and chassis must be OK.
    -There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory => page AUDI-B5-FU11-ST-002-05ST-23
    -Intake air temperature 5 to 35 ° C => AUDI-B5-FU11-ST-002-03ST-16
    -Throttle valve angle 12.0 to 16.0% => AUDI-B5-FU11-ST-002-03ST-16
    You said you checked the alternator, battery, and stater so I guess the ignition switch is all that's left in that loop

    1.back of steering wheel there are 2 holes- there are 2 t30 torx screws in there holding on your air bag.then there are a couple connectors.
    2.disconnect the battery before removing connectors-
    3.remove connectors and the center bolt to the steering wheel (i believe its a #12 triple square)-
    4.before removing the steering wheel mark it some how where the center bolt came out(score the metal on wheel and shaft)to ensure its straight on as before-
    5.remove the trim aroung the steering colunm(cant remember the little screws if they are a philips or a t8 screw)
    6.scrap paint off the the 2 flat head screws holding in the ignition switch (on the left with a plug going onto the end of it with some decent gauge wires)
    7.replace and follow in reverse order.
    8. connect battery when all is done and turn key on from passenger side just in case the airbag decided to be a dick

    If you want to get rid of that brake light before you replace your brake pads, just take off the front wheels and look for the wire that goes to the brake pads and cut the wire and connect the two wires together and be sure and put black tape over the bare wire, this of course is just a quick fix until you get new pads installed.

    how it works is the wire is built into the pads and keep a connection, but as they wear eventually it wears past the wire and leaves an open circuit which prompts the light in the dash, once the connection is complete again the light goes out.

    But if you dont mind seeing that stupid light in your face every day, then it can wait too.

    I used to have a few lights on and they drove me crazy, so glad I got that taken care of.

    I dont know for sure, but im pretty sure there is no way the air bag will go off if you do this. the only thing that can happen is if you disconnect the airbag while battery is plugged in, it could trip the airbag light to stay on all the time and have to be reset.

    So it is very important to be sure and have battery disconnected before you start taking steering wheel off. and then connect it after you put it back on.

    Ive had the steering wheel off on my audi's many times and havnt had a problem so dont be nervous about it going off.

    Biggest thing is to have the right torx for taking wheel off, not everyone has those in their tool box, and the other very important thing is mark where the steering wheel goes like they say in the instructions, otherwise when you drive down the road it will not be center and you dont want to have to take it apart again.

    if you did that other work on your car yourself, you can do this. Piece of cake!!!

    Well, I'd rather be sitting in the passenger seat that try and play chicken with the airbag in case there is some sort of short in the wiring and it blows...
