Would anyone happen to know if a 5 spd giac x chip can be swapped into a TIP vehicle and be functional? does it simply involve swapping it out and letting the ecu re-code itself in the new vehicle? how about the tip stock ecu I will be putting in my 5spd? I'm going GTRS + revo tune next week but selling my x chip and wanted to make sure that it worked before i sold it to the person. thanks.

    Re: Giac X chip

I believe you can recode it with VAG. Thats what the dude that sold me my APR chip did. His was TIP and I have a 5spd. He had a buddy recode and sent it my way. No problems. This is of course APR. Maybe GIAC is different.

It seems we are asking the same questions. I have asked on three different forums. I'm going to talk to a friend that does this at Genesis Motorsports to see what needs to be done.

The chips are interchangable, but I don't know the process (plug and play or not). The years that the chips are interchangeable are as such: 97-99.5, 2000, 2001, and 2001.5. They can be swapped with avant, sedan, fwd, quattro, manual or tip/automatic in those year ranges.

Just out of curiosity, where did you get that info? I have an 01, not a 01.5 and my ECU is CH not M.
