DIY Black Rear Emblem

I recently blacked out my dad's rear emblem and documented it on video. I thought it would be helpful if I did a DIY for you guys to see.

I thought of this idea for when I do my black rings, but I thought of it because I'm not skilled enough to put it back on properly. I'm glad that I am not the only one who had this idea, and that I'm not lacking skills.

Thanks for the compliments guys. And to try to assess all of your questions, I painted them myself. These rings actually came off of my A3 that some of you may have seen before. The black rings on my car came from ebay and had the adhesive backing already on it...which is starting to slowly come off. So I'm painting my dad's original chrome ones to put on my car in replacement of the ebay one.

Taping the guideline wasn't really done for lack of my skill, but more of an assurance that the emblem would be 100% in the same spot and not all jacked up in regards to positioning.

Nice vid, I've done this myself. A word of advice though is going to the dealer and buying some rings that have the adhesive already on it. Paint it like that and then add that one so you don't get glue marks and crap like I have. UGH.

True..thing is, I had these rings from MY car. So I'm not looking drop ~$30 on rings from the dealer when I have a set already. You just gotta be careful not to smear the glue. I was considering buying it though..but for $30, I just don't find it worth it for a mod like this.

Question, what kind of paint did you use? And did you treat (primer or final clear coat) them with anything. This seems to be an easy DIY project...

I used some cheap spray paint from walmart. I prepped by sanding, but didn't prime. Hit it with about 3-4 coats of gloss black..then with about 2-3 more of clear.

. LOL. I actually DID speed it up, for the sake of saving you guys time. Otherwise, you'd have been watching for about 20-30 mins, including all the running around and stuff that I cut out of the raw footage...if only it took 4 mins.

Yes, I bought the ones from Brazil. You'll get the rings, EVENTUALLY..but it took about 3 weeks to about a month for me to get them. I will never buy from that seller again. Next time I buy rings, it will be directly from the dealer.
