Exclamation New techniques in place in NW DC to catch speeders...

I was in NW DC this afternoon and had an officer step into traffic to wave me to the side to tell me to slow down. It was explained to me that I was only going to get a warning as he didn't use radar to verify my speed, instead of the ticket I deserved and that he was stopping me because he knew how fast I was going by the sound of my engine from 100 yards away...

I offered that this is just a misunderstanding as I was going less than 20 mph in bumper to bumper traffic (the truth...I tried to be respectful when responding as I wouldn’t be able to do that job and someone has to…) but he assures me that his experience with cars tells him I was speeding and he will watch for me next time...

My car has stock exhaust and only has a K&N air filter (B7 S4)...be warned that for some reason DC cops like to waste 20 minutes of your time if you sound fast...(reminds me of the Toyota commercials with the old dude yelling at the parked car to slow down...)

I can understand their life and that it sucks to get calls from NW DC people swearing that there is "street racing" going on in their neighborhoods and your boss makes you stand next to the curb and harass those that may fit the profile...but be warned that the "profile" may be a little broad and annoying...

I've seen a cop just waive for people to slow down. Didn't stop them, just kind of warning. Maybe a potential for future speed traps a few days later?!?

This was going Eastbound on Wilson Blvd towards DC/Pentagon, right by the USA Today building. They stood on the corner.

They had/have a electronic sign right there to warn people about jay-walking and wearing their seatbelt. I think its been real bad as far as traffic is concerned, and it is a lot cheaper to do stuff like posting a cop to slow down traffic then do something to fix the intersection.

I understand the warning and all but that would not hold up in court at all. A civic speeding does not sound like a mustang. plain and simple.

He could not write a ticket because the fact is that he does not know how fast you truly were going and therefore he does not have the authority to.
