    Made a dumb mistake

Yesterday I made a pretty dumb mistake I never thought I would do, but it happened, and thank god it wasnt worse. I was backing out of a commercial driveway because I went to get the car looked at and get a price to get the o2 sensors done. I was backing out and there was a metal fence on the left side, I thought I had room, then I turned my head to the right side mirror, kept backing up and SCRAPE !............. I got out and looked and didnt see anything because I looked in the wrong spot, but when I got to work later, I checked and saw on the edge of the back wheel well theres about 1.5inch scrape where the paint is chipping off. Yea, pretty stupid move . You dont have to tell me again, although you probly will.

I was thinking about ordering a can of ly9b matching paint, sanding the area, primer it, and spray the paint on, then clearcoat it. Just do it myself for about $50 or a little more, and hopefully it wont look too bad. Idk what a body shop will charge for something that size, but if I go to a body shop i'll have to wait longer to get it fixed. Yesterday was just a bad day in general. Seems someone doesnt want me to get chipped, because everytime I get close, something else just keeps ruining it. I'm in school right now, i'll put up a pic when i get home. Im just so angry/depressed. I didnt expect my first kind of damage would happen like that. I was expecting curb rash or something. Backing out just seems too simple to make a dumb mistake. /rant

    Re: Made a dumb mistake

IME, a good body shop will do it for $150-200 per body panel, assuming there's no need to fix any sheet metal. I guess it depends on whether you actually bent the sheet metal. Either way, I don't see any harm in trying the DIY route. Worst you'll have done is wasted a few bucks - I doubt you'll make it worse than before, and you can always take it to the body shop later on if it doesn't hold up. Assuming you don't do something dumb like cover the rest of the car with overspray...

i feel ya man, every single time i make plans to get chipped something else happens and sucks up my car budget. it isn't always a problem with my car, but for whatever reason it's like someone doesn't want me chipped. i've had my injectors sitting in the garage for almost six months now!

    Re: Made a dumb mistake

that sux bro, murphy's law, i had some asshole who thought he can be smart with his truck and turn before i did from behind me scrape the side of my front bumper, but luckily i pulled away right before he scraped and it just slightly scratched when i trailed him he floored it and turned, i was just like whatever shit happens, and the day after i got my car i got a CEL and on top of that some old lady scraped the rear panel of my car with an orange car, and some stupid pool builders left a big ass bobcat part in the middle of the road and i scraped it cause i couldn't see it! the body shop wants $600 to fix all of it as well as repress my front bumper, and to paint my lowers, i'm tryin to save up!!! GL bro, its a sign, as soon as i got chipped 2 coil packs took a shit!

    Re: Made a dumb mistake

i say try the DIY route. if its only about 1.5" thats not too bad. hell, i bought my car and didnt notice for over a month that the previous owner must have done the exact same thing you did. there was probably a 3" long spot on the passenger rear fender where he scraped it and you can tell if you look really close that he used touch up paint himself. you dont even notice at all though, i mean it took me over a month! so you can make the DIY fix look pretty damn good.

    Re: Made a dumb mistake

Yea, thanks guys for the sympathy, lol. Hopefully I can get this cash together and finally get chipped before the summer comes. Too bad it had to happen 2 days before Dubs on Defrost(Northeast) tomorrow. I'll get it fixed, and thank god its not bigger. It's just annoying and really depressing when I see my baby get hurt like that...lol.
