    Revo vs APR

Anyone had both at some point? Are the 14 extra HP of the Revo noticeable?

    Any comments will be appreciated

    Re: Revo vs APR

There is no indication from dynos or 1/4 mile times that either is that much different in terms of power at this point. APR used to post higher dynos in the very beginning but now GIAC, Revo, and APR seem to be putting out the same numbers. THe only consideration you may want to make is local support and future upgrade paths. Some like the Revo switcher, some like the APR "stock mode" via cruise control stalk and their ability to produce fully homologated kits.

    cheers! Mike

    Re: Revo vs APR

Well now, a Revo car did 13.7, and soon one that I know really closely is going to spray that record.

I went with Revo mostly because its tunable, unlike any other software.

Go with whatever shop is closest to you, or whichever tuner you like better. You won't notice the difference between brands.

    Re: Revo vs APR

I already have APR 93 and I like it a LOT but when I installed it I didn't do any research; just read that APR was good and got it installed. I have no complaints with APR at all. It's powerful and at the same time it allows great driveability and great gas mileage if you don't step on it.

But since Revo claims 14 more HP than APR I got curious... 14HP is not a small difference if it's true.

    Re: Revo vs APR

REVO software is supposed to provide a smoother power band, whereas APR and GIAC are more spikey when boost comes on.

    Re: Revo vs APR

I think that youll find that people that have APR says its great, and people that have REVO says its great too, so either one will put a smile on your face. APR lets you switch to stock via the cruise control stock but REVO lets you fine tune boost, afr, and timing with the select plus switch as well as antitheft and back to stock. I think that REVO with the select plus switch is the tuner's dream but go with whatever your closest dealer has that you can trust coming back to.

    Re: Revo vs APR

Is the 14hp increase at the crank or wheels? If you read the prior dyno debates you'll see there are variances between dyno tests on different dynos etc. If its crank numbers those are also calculated differently by different dynos (multiples vary by dyno manf). I think this is an endless debate but what most said here is true. Go with one of the major brands offered locally for reflashes and support. I liked APR but bought GIAC because it was offered locally and I saved about $200 at a car show/event. I also liked the flashloader device which allows you to easily change programs. But all 3 have their own versions of this anyway. Best of luck.

I have Revo and love it. I have heard problems with other APR products, not necessarily the CHIP, but I would still go Revo. I got my Revo done at my Audi dealership.

    Re: Revo vs APR

I know you're happy with your APR, and I think switching to Revo would just be a waste of money for something that is almost exactly the same. You would barely notice it at all if you do, so just stick with the APR you have imo

why don't you go for a REVO test drive and figure it out on your own? you can't get a straight answer for this question.

By some of the responses here I believe that the claimed 14 more HP are open to more than one interpretation. I don't think it's worth it to erase my APR and than have to pay $50 bucks to get reflashed. I think that the APR 93 does a magnifico job but the little turbo has its limitations when taking the engine above 5k RPMs and this probably happens with all brands of chips. The answer will come with a good turbo upgrade when/if any of the tuners come up with one. - Something in the 300/320 crank HP with no need to change internals is what I would love.

Our chips (all brands) are great for moving our mammoth A4s with agility around city and highway on a normal day drive; it makes you feel you have a very powerful car, but when you want to redline the 2.0t FSI is disappointing.

I come from an Acura that was a dog at low RPMs with ridiculous low torque, but it took your breath away from 5K to redline at 8K

APR; VF; AWE; C'mmon guys hurry those turbo upgrades for us longitudinal guys!
