    A/c removal...talk some shit

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i removed a/c from my car today while its tied up on the lift waiting for my poor ass to get money to get some rs6's. so i decided to daily take off some weight by doing something. today it was a/c.

i went with a belt 680 in length, at this length its pretty damn tight, and close to the crankshaft pulley (the auto-tensioner), but it will not hit. a 685 also works good. the stock size is 730 for reference. 6 ribs in case anyone was wondering.

removed with the belt part number (dayco)

parts removed (AND FOR SALE, WORKS GREAT!!!. everything capped once removed so no worries). weight is around 20lbs, plus the rotation weight of the pulley.

where the a/c lines and evaporator use to be.

i was thinking about removing it but i heard from some people that removing the fan clutch without any sort of electric fan causes s4's to overheat in the summer. have you had any issues with that?

    Re: A/c removal...talk some shit

I hope you are planning on short rides. As my car was turning from a DD to club car I was dropping weight. Of course A/C was one of the first intermitted steps I took. Since I was not driving the car on daily basis I did not care, but then I drove to track at Mt. Tremblant, which is about 7-8 hours from my home; I quickly regretted my decision. It was the most exhausting trip I can think of and I’ve driven across half of the world. I was tired and miserable all weekend. In paddock, between sessions, I poured water on my head, but it did not help much. The sad part, it was not even that hot (~90 degrees). As soon as I came back home I begun looking for a trailer and a tow vehicle. If its your DD the weight you save does not worth the sacrifice.

bro I honestly have thought of the same thing, because I cannot fix all the oil leaks, and it jsut smells like burnt oil when the ac is on

I have done valve gaskets, cam gaskets, cam tensioner gakets

    and the smell persists

Boris have you tried pressure washing the engine? If you haven't removed the sludge/gunk from previous leaks it will just keep smelling...

I dont have AC in my car right now (still have the system, just not charged) and it's fine. If it's too hot, I just use common sense and roll my windows down.

Obviously I kept windows down most of the time. And at the track front windows must be down anyways.

Looking good, I've thought of doing that before. I've also thought about swapping out the power steering system for a non-hydraulic system.

I have had zero problems with overheating and I have no clutch fan, but I also run SMIC's, not a FMIC FWIW

i thought about the p/s also, but if you remove the pulley you will hit the tensioner when you route the belts..nless you make a ilder pulley that is small and weighs nothing in place of the p/s pump. unless you had something else planned also.

I was thinking of running an idler pulley also. Some sort of lightweight unit, so that it would actually be beneficial to replace the PS pulley with something smaller and lighter in rotational mass.
