    Thinking about getting some "R"s

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm running the Beru/Hitachi coils and am getting ramdom and under load misfires in cyls. 1+3. Sometimes it's just a small misfire or power reduction. I think I'm going to pick up some stock "R" coils.

Re: Thinking about getting some "R"s

The Beru/Hitachis live longer, but has less spark and the "R" coil has more spark but, less life.

Re: Thinking about getting some "R"s

I can get them for $25 each @ the local VW dealer and just keep the Berus as spares. Who knows, I might get some good ones that'll last for more then 6 months. BTW, they have 19 in stock.

Re: Thinking about getting some "R"s

^^I should have to walk the plank. I'm interested in what change they will bring. I switched to the Berus when doing my motor so I have no reference. Kinda feeling the 034 single 4 post coil with the 16v wire conversion, but it's about $125 more.

whats the misfires feel like? I know we are on TOTALLY different levels of performance mods but I notice some "stuttering/hesitation" in second(tip mode) when I gun it and the engine is under load.

How long do the R's tend to last until they need to be replaced? I'm thinking about getting the R's right after I do the valve cover gasket.

I've had 1 R fail on me after about 4-5 months. I've replaced it with a new R. No problems since, but yes, they can fail too.

I've had 2 R's fail within 3 months of install on 1+. Have been on Hitachi E's for just over a year now (since Stage 3+) and not one problem. Smooth as buttah.
My two R's that didn't fail are in trunk as spares. To each his own.

i like E's for reliability, there is nothing to show E's have less spark... someone dyno'ed them i think or something and it showed no difference

Re: Thinking about getting some "R"s

Well I put in the new "R"s and Bosch FR5-DTC plugs and still get a misfire. It's wierd, sometimes it'll run flawless and other times like shit. I think my coolant temp sensor might be the cause but I'm getting no codes. If I try to give it a little throttle blip when it's cold it'll pop and backfire or after its warm and gets into boost it'll miss but not all the time.

Check the injector seals...I would remove and lubricate the seals with petroleum jelly. Log the car for misfires at idle and try rotating them fore and aft slighly. Misfores will come and go.

The injectors can leak from the top (fuel rail) and botton (intake manifold). Get you car on a dyno, all of you BAT guys are embarrassing the B6 crowd with your sub 300AWHP dynos, blown motors and other failed parts.

    This is not rocket science.

I'll try that. Also I'm waiting for the guy who's doing my exh. to get his lift installed, he just moved into a bigger shop. I have all the parts sitting beside me, the mufflers, resonaters, tips, Cat 3658s and I still need to wire and mount my WI controller. Have you ever heard of Variocool?

Nope, I think H20/Meth is a waste of time. I have yet to see anybody prove to me they make more power with it. (butt dyno does not count)
