Suggestion for StageI?

hi all,
My 2001 s4 is bone stock, i'm starting to do some modification.
it's got almost 120,000miles on it, I was thinking about doing intake, do ECU tunning.
What would you suggest doing before going for more Power?
how about intercooler, all the hoses, BPV, brakes, and suspension?
I want to do it right, so I'm asking you guys for right way of doing it.
And has anyone tried AWE drive train stabilizer?
My trani kinda bumps when I let go on clutch unless I do real smooth.
That might be helpful to hold the trani tight with the engine?
and my speakers are getting bad...I couldn't find any on eBay, anyone know where I can get the speakers with good price?
What do you think???

Ill tell you one thing do not waste any money on a intake the factory intake is the best way to go. Ecu is worth the money, if going with a ECU im of course partial to VAST they make great tunes and lots of people on here love them too.

And before I moved to S4, i had japanese cars, and CAI was must. I used to have Magnaflow catback, I wasn't really happy with it, it just made annoying sound while cruising and stuff...
Doesn't intake make the engine sound some what sexier?
Anyway, I was just surfing around, and read a lot about GIAC or APR, but not much of VAST.
So VAST is many of you guy's favorite???
And I will try to repair what need to be fixed...
so have you guys tried the drive train stabilizer?

Just search chip or ecu in this forum, you'll find a lot of arguments against the pros/cons of APR, GIAC, VAST, etc.

Also, if you are thinking about going stage 3 eventually, buy the chip to the relative company. APR = APR, etc. (kind of my dilemma, I have APR, but their STG3 is one of the most expensive)

I've never been in anything other than an APR, but I have it on my S4 and my dad's allroad. They both drive really great, but it all goes down to the buyer..

As far as where to start, it depends on what you're looking for. If you want more power, then go chip right first. If you're happy with the power for now and want to improve looks and handling, go suspension.

If you go chip you should probably do your diverter valves (B5 S4 uses DVs instead of BPVs, but same general concept). The stock DVs tend to spring leaks.


I love my GIAC... It'll throw you back in your seat. It tends to be the torque master of Stage 1. APR should be a little smoother, but a little less torque. Still really nice from what I've heard.

i think the best intake for your situation would be an AEM, make sure to get the extra tubing so you can mount it lower into your bumper for coldest air possible. Just cut off the exhaust run no exhaust, cheapest most effective way to get power. Deff. get the shark injector chip you actually just plug it into the OBD port and you should be good to go

I run a custom intake on mine (i.e. DIY) just make sure you heat shield around it... It definitely makes the car sound better, really the only way outside of a STG3 to hear the DV's - I used to be a JDM guy and I love the blowoff (I know everyone here hates the whoosh) but having an open air intake lets you hear them and others around... I have the apr chip pretty happy with it!!! But do things like control arms and regular maintence cuz when things break it is not cheap!!! nor are the upgrades... Happy tuning!!!

Just FYI, BPV stands for by-pass valve, DV is diverter valve, and BOV is blow off valve.

I think I'm going to get the car checked first, then go with GIAC ecu, do intake, and replace the DV's...

I went with GIAC for my chip in Janurary and I love how it will throw you back in your seat. I also did the RS4 clutch and AWE lightweight flywheel at the same time and I can keep up with a e60 m5 no problem. It really is driver preference though for how you want ride comfort and what not.

Just tweak your stock ECU, at the end it's the same thing. Make sure you add all the timing you can!!!
