    Labor for BT install

I'm away at school and don't even have a driveway, let alone a garage, so unfortunately I can't attempt to do the install myself, which is unfortunate cuz I feel like I could... But anyway I've been quoted around 15 hrs @ $95/hr in labor by the shop for a GTRS elim install including the manifold (which they claim another 2.5hrs for). I feel this is a huge number for what the work requires from reading mutliple diy's. What have other's paid and if you work at/own a shop, what do you usually charge?

    Re: Labor for BT install

I'm glad you agree with me. After so searching I feel safe going with the "new" atp manifold. Is that a good idea. The guy at the shop told me the last 6 atp manifolds they've used have required machining to fit w/o exhaust leaks and they crack. I believe he's talking about the old style atp's. He recommended the Treadstone mani btw. Keep chiming in about labor costs. I know 15hrs is ridiculous, what is a more accurate estimate?

    Re: Labor for BT install

15 hrs is more like a "build your motor" quote...or at least part of it. you could be quoted that for pistons and rods plus turbo and mani and that would be approaching correct..and even then for just that work it may be a little steep... i think 6ish hrs...maybe 7 if the mani gives them trouble.

Is $95/hr a legit price too? I know the dealer once wanted $128 an hour but I swear I've paid like $70 and hour at other shops.

If you brought it to my shop we would charge you 8 hours, $89/hr. I know the car like the back of my hand though so I know exactly how long it takes. If they don't know what there doing or havent done one before, itll take them that long! lol

Not to get off topic but if you had to rate the install 1-10 what would it be?

A pain in the ass, lol. Without the right tools its a huge pain, still takes some knowledge and patience. Nothing fits perfect!

I guess I think otherwise. I think its easy. Then again, I'm building a new motor and think that's relatively easy. Go figure...

Thanks for the numbers Shawn. You're right, if they can't do it in that time then I probably don't want them too. Numbers from a shop owner are good ammo.

Wow, alot of confidence in your self........

All you have to do (besides have the right tools) is have the balls to tear into your car....after that it literally is just putting a puzzle together....with really big pieces...hell its not even that many pieces either.

    Dont be a puss, lol

If you know what your doing its extremely easy, if you don't its not. It sucked the first time I did it, Im just being honest. If you are mechanical inclined and dont mind some headaches, you can absolutely do it, just be patient and leave plenty of time!

No problem, anything over 8-9 hours I would go elsewhere. Like I said my guess is they havent done one before, if they havent it will take them 10-12 hours and then they are building in some extra time on top of that quoting you 15. Good luck with whatever you decide and if theres anything I can do feel free to let me know!

I'm not, and I'll still do it myself. I've done engines before but never anything on 1.8T and if Shawn says it's a pain in the ass it makes me think twice cause he seems to know his shit front and back. Here's hoping by waterfest!
